If you are in need of a Justice of the Peace today, I am in Kaiwaka Library now until the library closes at 2pm.
Next week, I will be in the library on Monday 4pm to 6pm, then Friday and Saturday, 10am to 2pm each day.

Pop in to see me anytime the flag or sign* is up at the library. I try to remember to post here to let you know when I'm "in", but I don't always manage to do that.

What can a Justice of the Peace do for you?
- A JP can witness your signature on a document.
- A JP can certify copies of documents for you including cellphone texts and computer displayed results.
- A JP can administer an affidavit for you. This is a document that is sworn on oath or affirmed and is normally used in a legal proceeding.
- A JP can complete a declaration for you. This may be a statutory declaration made under the Oaths and Declarations Act 1957 or some other statute which provides for this to be done.

Identification - bring some form of ID with you; driver's licence, passport, fi****ms licence, 18+ card, etc. If you don't have anything suitable we can work around that, but it's easier if you have ID.
Signatures - if you have documents that need a witnessed signature (Statutory Declarations, Affidavits, and anything else where there is a space for a witness to sign in conjunction with your signature) do not SIGN your documents before you get to your JP. The JP needs to see you signing the document. All other details required to be filled in on the form before the signature (if any) can and should be completed before arrival.
Certified Copies - please bring the original AND the copy with you. Kaiwaka Library does not have copying facilities - Kaiwaka Food Mart up the road does. If the original is in electronic form (a document on your computer/phone, perhaps attached to an email), you need to be able to show that document on a screen of yours - bring your smartphone or laptop, and know how to access that document before you arrive.
Copy of IRD number - please save the document to your phone or computer before printing, so you can show that saved file to compare against the printed version.
KiwiSaver - read through your document and the associated instructions carefully to make sure you have everything needed. Every provider is different in the associated documents you need to supply to prove you are you. Bring the whole document including the instructions, not just the page you will be signing, and copies and originals of any identity documents required.
Statutory Declarations and Affidavits - if there are "exhibits" mentioned in the document, bring those with you as well as the full document you'll be signing.
Passport applications - a JP is needed ONLY if you need to complete the Statutory Declaration part of the form. Your identity witness must be someone who has known you for at least a year, AND has a current NZ passport. That is not me at present.
18+ Card applications - this is now called the Kiwi Access Card. A JP is no longer needed for this. If your application form says you need one, you have the old form and need to use the new one. Go to https://kiwiaccess.co.nz/ to find out more.
Rates Rebate applications no longer needs a JP to witness your signature.
Our services as JPs are a community service and are offered free of charge.
