LOCAL GOVERNMENT REFORMS - Community Update

We recently held two public meetings in Kaikōura and Kekerengu. Thank you to all who took the time to attend. We really appreciated our time with you.

Future meetings will be advertised on our social media platforms, website and via email.

The first paper on amalgamation options is going to Council on Wednesday 24th June and is available on the Council meeting agenda.

The handout also includes a summary of survey results as at 7pm June 15th 2026.

A reminder also that the feedback survey closing time has been extended to 5pm 30th June 2026. We will be sharing a summary of the results after the closing date.

WATER SERVICES BOARD NOW COMPLETE 💧

Kaikōura Hurunui Water Services Ltd (KHWS) has officially completed its inaugural board, with Murray Strong (Hurunui District Council) and Diane Brandish (Kaikōura District Council) appointed as directors.

They join Chair Karl Smith, Lee Babe and Ross Pickworth to form a full five-member board.

Chair Karl Smith says the new appointments strengthen the board’s expertise and ensure KHWS is well positioned to deliver strong, effective governance for our communities from day one.

WATER IS BACK ON FOR WEST END

Water has been restored to the West End.

Please ensure to flush the pipes by keeping the tap open for a minute before using.

EMERGENCY WATER REPAIRS AND WATER OFF UPDATE - WEST END

The pipe is still being cleared following removal of surrounding concrete and establishment of the issue.

We estimate the water will remain off for approximately 6 hours.

Our next update will be close to 3pm.

Thank you for your patience.

The water has now been restored.

COUNCIL OFFICES CLOSED EARLY

The KDC reception and offices are closed
for the day due to the West End water outage.

Staff will be working from home so will remain contactable by email or mobile phones.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
