⚠️ Sandbagging Times – Kaiaua Community ⚠️

Kia ora e te whānau,
We’ll be running 1.5 hour sandbagging sessions to help everyone get prepared:

📅 Friday: 10am-11:30am & 4pm
📅 Saturday: TBC

👩‍🚒 Our crew will be on site to help things run smoothly. We’ll also need to take down a few details for our records – this helps us plan better for future events. Please note we have limited bags available so if you have empty sandbags bring these along. If any of our local farmers have empty calf milk bags please consider dropping them off to the station for the community to use.

🙏 Please only take what you need and be mindful that others in our community may also need support.

🤝 If you’re able, lend a hand to those around you – and if you know of anyone who may need extra help, let us know.

Thanks everyone for working together to keep our community safe.

Kia ora whānau,

Thanks to Waikato Regional Council and McWatt Excavation Services Ltd, we have sand available for the community as we prepare for the incoming weather. Thank you as well to Hauraki District Council for supplying the sand bags.

At this stage, we’re just getting things organised, please hold off for now and we’ll update you shortly with times to come for sandbagging.

If you know of anyone in our community who may need a hand, especially kaumātua/elderly or vulnerable whānau, flick us a message. We’ll do our best to check in and support where we can.

In the meantime, it’s a good chance to get things sorted at home and keep an eye on neighbours.

Thanks everyone – we’ll keep the updates coming.

Kia ora e te whānau,

We want to give you a heads up that wet and windy conditions may be on the way this Sunday.

We’re currently keeping a close eye on communications about Cyclone Vaianu, which could bring strong winds and heavy rain across parts of the North Island. At this stage, the exact track is still uncertain, so things may change — we’ll continue to share updates as we know more.

While there’s still some uncertainty, now is a good time to get prepared around home and in our community:
✔ Clear gutters and drains to prevent flooding
✔ Bring in or secure loose outdoor items (e.g. trampolines, furniture)
✔ Check in on whānau, neighbours, and anyone who may need extra support
✔ Move farm animals to safer areas away from flooding and strong winds
✔ Keep up to date with weather updates from MetService New Zealand

We understand that not every weather warning eventuates the way it’s predicted — but it’s always better to be prepared just in case.

If you experience flooding, fallen trees, or any immediate danger, call 111 — we will be there when needed. Please don’t drive through floodwaters.

Take care, stay safe, and look out for one another 🤝

Kia ora e te whānau,

🟠🟠🟠 Just a heads up that an Orange Heavy Rain and Strong Wind Warning has been issued for our rohe. There’s potential for wave over topping in low-lying areas and some NE winds early Friday morning.

We understand these warnings may not always eventuate, but it’s a good opportunity to take a few simple precautions, just in case.

✅ A few things you could do:
• Tie down or bring in any loose outdoor items
• Move anything important up off the ground if you’re in a low-lying area
• Have a quick check around your property

☎️ If conditions do pick up and you experience flooding, fallen trees, or other hazards, please call 111 and we’ll be dispatched to help.

🚫 Just a reminder — don’t drive through floodwater.

For updates, you can keep an eye on:
• MetService New Zealand
• Antenno app

Take care and look out for each other.
