Recently, a young seal was spotted enjoying the beach near Hokitikaโ€™s ocean outfall pipe. To ensure the safety and well-being of both our furry friends and the native species, we kindly ask dog owners to keep their pets on leashes and maintain a respectful distance from any wildlife encountered.

Dog poo left behind, no thank you!

Borrowing this image from Selwyn District Council (thank you!) because we're hearing that there's an issue with dog owner's leaving their dog's poo behind ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ’ฉ in Hokitika town centre. Come on dog owners, do the right thing and pick up after your pet. ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿฆฝ๐ŸšถLet's keep our streets nice for people to use.

Don't forget your dog registration!

๐Ÿ‘‰ This is the last chance to register your dog before 1 August and avoid penalties.

โ— It's important to register your dog as the tag you attach to their collar is a quick way for Councils to identify your dog if they go wandering.
๐ŸถThe fees help us to run the animal control activity and the pound.

๐Ÿ’ป Visit our website to re-register and pay online, drop into the customer service centre or give us a call on 0800474 834.

Thinking about bringing your dog on a journey?

Plan ahead and ask yourself:

Whatโ€™s the weather like?
Will you have to leave your dog in the car?
How long will the dog be in the car?
Is it better to leave the dog at home?
A hot dog seeks shade and may pant, drool, and hyperventilate.

If you see a dog suffering in a hot car, take immediate action. Find the dog owner or call the SPCA or police.

Hi Folks
Animal control will be working through out the Christmas period with reduced service . Urgent calls ie dog attacks will be dealt with as priority police can also be called . Loose dogs if caught need to be secured and a message left as to where they are and they will be collected .
Anything else leave a message and itโ€™ll get dealt with accordingly .
Have an awesome Christmas and safe travels for those going away .
