We are incredibly pleased to share that we now have a brand new AED (Automated External Defibrillator) installed on-site, helping to keep our entire community safer.

📍 Where is it located?
The AED is mounted right outside the main office door, making it centrally located and accessible if an emergency arises.

🔑 How to access it:
The AED is stored in a secure, locked cabinet. If it is needed:

Step 1: Dial 111 immediately.

Step 2: The emergency operator will instantly provide you with the access code to open the cabinet.

Out of Zone Enrolments Term 3 2026

The board advises that a vacancy has become available at Matapu School.

The board operates an enrolment scheme and is required to fill any vacant out-of-zone places by ballot in cases where there are more applications for enrolment than there are places available. The board has determined that 1 New Entrant place is likely to be available to out-of-zone students for enrolment for Term 3, 2026.

The board is prepared to receive applications, in addition to those it already holds, so long as they reach the school by Friday 26th June 2026. If a ballot is required, it will be held on Tuesday 30th June 2026.

Parents will be informed of the outcome of the ballot within three school days of the ballot being held.

Please note, the exact number of places available will depend on the number of in-zone applications received before the close of applications.

Year 7/8 Rippa Tournament 🏉🟡🔵

A massive congratulations to all of our Year 7/8 students who smashed it at the South Taranaki Rippa Competition at The Hub yesterday!

Both teams represented our school with absolute pride, played their hearts out, and had an awesome time on the field.

A huge shoutout and thank you to our incredible coaches! We truly appreciate you volunteering your time to help with practices and guide the players on game day. We couldn't do it without you! 🙌

Kaponga Soccer Tournament ⚽️🔵🟡

Tuesday was a standout day for Matapu as 40 of our tamariki headed to the Kaponga Soccer Club for the Annual Primary Interschool Tournament. The sun was shining, the energy was high, and the talent on display was even better!

We are incredibly proud to announce that two of our teams fought their way to the top of their brackets:
• Matapu Blue (Year 3/4): Division Runners-Up! 🥈
• Matapu Year 6–8: Division Runners-Up! 🥈

Bringing home two silver finishes is a testament to the hard work, teamwork, and sportsmanship of our players. It was a brilliant day of football from start to finish.

Matapu School was well represented at the ANZAC Dawn Service in Hawera yesterday morning. Thanks to all of the students, whānau and staff who go up early to show their respects. Three of our school leaders placed the wreath under the memorial arch on behalf of our school. Unfortunately some students had left before we took a group photo. Lest we forget.

ANZAC Day
This week our students have been learning about the ANZAC Day and what it was like for those who went to war.

Tomorrow is ANZAC Day and Matapu School will be represented at the Dawn Service in Hawera. if you would like to join us, please meet by 6.15am outside Ngati Ruanui on Princes Street for the parade. Our school leaders will lay a wreath on behalf of our school. Monday 27th April is a public holiday so school will be closed.
