🌟 Future Chefs in Action! 🍽️
Our Level 1 Hospitality class continues to impress the Board of Trustees with the delicious kai they prepare for our monthly BOT hui. 👏
Students are getting hands-on experience as they experiment with a range of flavours, textures, and preparation techniques — building their confidence and skills every step of the way.
We’re so proud of their creativity, teamwork, and passion in the kitchen… definitely chefs in the making! 👨‍🍳👩‍🍳💛

Last week, Head Student Rangitatau had the opportunity to meet with Janet Vaiusu-Tuala, a family lawyer at Willis Legal in Hastings.

Janet shared valuable insights into pursuing a career in law, offering practical advice on preparing for university and making the most of the opportunities it provides. Her guidance gave Rangitatau a greater understanding of the pathway into the legal profession and the dedication required to succeed.

Rangatatau left the meeting feeling inspired and excited about the possibilities that lie ahead should she choose to pursue a career in law.

⚽ MATCH REPORT! A fantastic effort from our football team on Saturday against Central Hawkes Bay!

The team showed great determination, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the day, representing our school with pride. It was awesome to see our students supporting one another and giving their best right until the final whistle.

Thank you to our brilliant supporters - whānau and friends - who brought the cheer this game and many more to come!

Our senior Social Studies Tupu class had the wonderful opportunity to visit our local Age Concern and spend time with kaumātua from our community.

Over a shared morning tea, stories were exchanged as our visitors reflected on their educational journeys, while our students listened with genuine interest to the many changes that have taken place over the years. It was a special time of connection, learning, and mutual respect.

Cards and pool quickly became a highlight of the day — with our students soon discovering they were up against some very skilled “pool sharks”!

This meaningful experience truly reflected our whakataukī “he waka eke noa” — we are all in this together. Both groups left feeling uplifted, appreciative, and already looking forward to more opportunities like this in the future. 💛

🏉 Match Review – Flaxmere College Boys vs HBHS U17s

Final Score: HBHS U17s 65 – 34 Flaxmere College Boys

A fast-paced and exciting game with plenty of positives. We made strong metres and showed some great quick-fire attack from the breakdown when our communication was good.

Our focus this week is understanding our roles, improving breakdown communication on defence, and holding each other accountable as a team. No blaming individuals—we win, learn, and grow together.

We are only as strong as our weakest link. On to the next one. 💪🏉
