Trees For Survival 🌳

On Friday, 12 June, some of our Kākāpō tamariki had the exciting opportunity to take part in the Trees for Survival project at a Fonterra farm in Horotiu. The tamariki had an amazing day outdoors, learning about the importance of tree planting and the positive impact it has on our environment.

Throughout the day, they demonstrated excellent responsibility and resilience as they dug holes, planted trees, checked that their plants passed the "pūkeko test", and navigated the farm's slopes. It was fantastic to see the students embracing the challenge with such enthusiasm and determination.

We were also treated to a delicious sausage sizzle for lunch, kindly provided by the Fonterra farm owners. The students represented our school exceptionally well, showing respect, gratitude, and positive behaviour throughout the day. They should be very proud of their efforts and the contribution they made to helping our environment.

A huge thank you to the parents who generously volunteered their time to support the trip. Your help and support were greatly appreciated and helped make the day such a success.

❤️ 💛 💚 💙House Sport Basketball competition continued with the semi final games played at lunchtime on Friday.

The first game saw Rātā and Nīkau battle it out in a hard-fought contest. Both teams played exceptionally well, showing great teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship. Nīkau came away with the win, 9–5, to secure their place in the final.

In the second semi-final, Tōtara faced Kōwhai in another exciting match. The game was played at a fast pace with both teams giving it their all, but Tōtara managed to take the win and book their spot in the final.

Congratulations to all four teams for their effort and positive attitude throughout the competition. We now look forward to an exciting House Sport Basketball Final between Nīkau and Tōtara on the last day of the term. ❤️ 💛 💚 💙

Ruru at Fieldays: Innovation in Action!

As part of our learning, the Ruru team had the exciting opportunity to visit the Fieldays at Mystery Creek!

This was a fantastic chance for our tamariki to see innovation and creativity brought to life; from cutting-edge agricultural technology to sustainable practices and clever Kiwi inventions. The trip sparked curiosity, encouraged questions, and connected beautifully with our classroom learning.

A huge thank you to our wonderful parent helpers who supported us rain or shine; your time and energy helped make the day memorable! Thank you also to the Ruru team kaiako for their brilliant organisation of the day.

Sam and his Farmyard Friends🐐🐴

This morning, it was a cold and chilly start to the day, the Tui team had a fantastic visit from Sam and his Farmyard Friends. We were lucky enough to welcome a pony, rabbit, lamb, goat, chickens, and even some guinea pigs into our kura, creating a real buzz of excitement among our tamariki.

Our children absolutely loved having the chance to ride on the pony, many of them showing great confidence and joy as they took their turn. Throughout the visit, they demonstrated their Pukete virtues beautifully, showing whakaute/respect, manaaki/caring, and gentle hands as they interacted with each of the animals.

They enjoyed feeding the animals hay, giving them soft pats, and learning about their different environments and needs. It was a wonderful hands-on learning experience that helped our tamariki build empathy, curiosity, and confidence while having a truly memorable morning together.
