Tairawhiti Volunteer Fire Brigades

Tairawhiti Volunteer Fire Brigades The Tairawhiti Volunteers are the first responders in their areas, so without them you would be waiting a long time for help to arrive.

Tairawhiti Volunteer Fire Brigades face book pages is for the volunteer brigades of Tairawhiti to showcase their brigades and use to promote and recruit more volunteer Firefighters in their communities. Without volunteers theses brigades would not exist, these communities would have no one protecting them from Fire or to help if the was a motor vehicle accident or any other type of emergency . WE

NEED MORE VOLUNTEERS NOW! There are 12 Brigades in Tairawhiti, 11 of which are Volunteer and one Career station (Gisborne) with a composite unit attached, which is volunteer . Gisborne Station is also the Tairawhiti Area Office. The Brigades are:

Apart from this requirement, almost anybody can join a Brigade, male or female, young or old, those looking for adventure or those just wanting to contribute to their community. There are opportunities for people from all backgrounds within a Volunteer Fire Brigade. All of the Tairawhiti Volunteer Fire Brigades are always looking for more volunteers so if you think you want to help your local community then give us a call:

As some of you may be aware one of our Operational Support Volunteers, Nathan Wood passed away on Friday 1st July 2022.

Nathan had been unwell for a period of time and, despite his illness, remained close to the Brigade and attended trainings and meetings when he was able.

Nathan served ten years with the Gisborne Fire Brigade from 2012 to 2022. He was a committed and highly valued member of the Volunteer Unit who always got on with anyone and everyone.

Nathans time with the Gisborne Fire Brigade was only one of his many passions. He dedicated his time to helping others and was actively involved in other community groups and through his personal workplace which again was based on serving and protecting his community.

Nathans funeral was held on Monday 4th July in Gisborne after a short resting period at home allowing those of us to share memories and conversations about our mate.

Across New Zealand FENZ is failing the community with failing trucks and equipment and dangerously low levels of career firefighters and 111 emergency call centre operators. Meanwhile FENZ prioritises HQ roles establishing 50 ICT positions in June but cancelling a career firefighter course in April.

A truck offline due to lack of staffing means one less truck to respond. It means a truck will have to come from further afield and minutes cost lives.

FENZ is rolling the dice on public safety – the New Zealand public deserves better.

Please support the NZPFU in its fight for safe staffing and systems of work, fair wages and recognition of occupational cancer and injury.

You can show your support by sending a letter explaining the fire crisis to every Member of Parliament.

It is important that every Member of Parliament understands that this Fire Crisis is a crisis of public safety!

To do that we need the New Zealand Government to understand that there is a fire crisis that is putting public safety at unnecessary risk.

MASSIVE FAREWELL KEVIN WALLACE.

Known to us as Wal, from joining the Brigade in 1978 as a Career Firefighter and serving 40+ years, as well as being one of the best Volunteer Support Officers in the Nation.

We knew this day would come and we have never looked forward to it. The kind words shared by all the brigades present is a testament to the mahi that you have put in and the time you spent training, laughing, helping and most of all supporting both the Eastern and Western Volunteer Brigades.

Enjoy your retirement and all the best to you Wal and Christine and your whanau.

🚒 Our fire trucks and specialist appliances are in crisis. In 5 more years, this truck will celebrate its 40th Birthday. It could well be the first and only aerial responding to a multi story building fire in Dunedin... Instead, it should be in a museum and our firefighters should be resourced properly with modern equipment and fleet that doesn't belong in a museum.
