SuperGrans is a holistic wellbeing service that offers whānau a hand when they need it the most. We don’t judge the situation that people find themselves in, we help out with what whānau need and operate according to old fashioned whanaungatanga. Our aim is to help in a way that supports people to help themselves and gain a greater level of control over their lives. We provide the Tairāwhiti commu

nity with kai parcels, budgeting advice, life skills and cooking workshops, and social work. Liking our page is a huge help to us to assist us in spreading awareness about food insecurity in our region and what we can do about it. You can also donate food, funds or your own time as a volunteer.

Meet Sarah Elliott, our Strategic Advisor 🧡🩵

WHAT IS YOUR BACKGROUND?
I come from a rich mix of social work, community development, coaching, and leadership, with years spent guiding national human rights organisations, social services, and grassroots community initiatives. My mahi is grounded in compassion, strategy, and empowering people to thrive - whether through supervision, coaching, policy development, or strengthening organisations to better serve whānau.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOUR ROLE?
As Strategic Advisor at SuperGrans Tairāwhiti, I love being part of strengthening an organisation that genuinely changes lives. My mahi sits at the intersection of strategy, governance, relationships, and big-picture thinking - helping ensure our kaupapa is sustainable, future‑focused, and grounded in the needs of whānau. I thrive on connecting dots, navigating complexity, championing our story, and building the systems and partnerships that allow our team to do their best work for the community.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY OUTSIDE OF MAHI?
Outside of work, I’m all about joy, movement, and connection. I love dancing, singing badly but enthusiastically, and spending time with my favourite people — my kids, husband, whānau, and friends. You’ll usually find me camping, exploring beaches, soaking up nature, or making the most of every beautiful moment.

A huge mihi to Mission Monday, a group of 9 rangatahi from Campion College whose faith-inspired mission is to support the most vulnerable.

Meeting during their Monday lunch breaks, they created Jammies 4 June and through their college, church, and community connections, they have collected 48 pairs of donated pyjamas, 2x pairs of knitted socks and 2x pairs of slippers. They also raised an amazing $567 which they have donated to SuperGrans to purchase more pyjamas.

They saw the impact we have in supporting whānau in need and felt our values aligned with their own. Thank you for your generosity, compassion, and commitment to making a difference. Ka mau te wehi! 💚

It's hard not to smile when you're surrounded by colour like this.

These beautiful hand-knitted blankets are just some of the many generous donations we receive from our community. Made with care and kindness. They bring warmth, comfort, and a little bit of joy wherever they go.

Our team couldn't resist showing off a few of these stunning creations. We are constantly amazed by the talent and generosity of the people who support our kaupapa.

Thank you to everyone who donates their time, skills, and aroha to help care for our community 🧶

Meet Crystal, our Finance & Operations Manager 🧡🩵
Ngāti Kauwhata, Ngāti Wehiwehi, Tainui

WHAT IS YOUR BACKGROUND?
I have over 10 years’ experience in finance roles across a range of organisations including corporate, social housing, Māori incorporations, charities, and school boards. Alongside these roles, I have also focused on community financial wellbeing education, supporting individuals and whānau to achieve their goals. I’ve always enjoyed working with numbers and systems, while also giving back to the community through the learnings and experiences I’ve gained throughout my career. I love being able to utilise my skills to support meaningful outcomes for the community.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOUR ROLE?
I genuinely enjoy what I do. While I’m new to the management space, I bring the same approach I’ve carried throughout my career, focusing on how I can best support the people around me through a collective approach, where we move and grow together. A key part of my role is to keep SuperGrans moving forward by strengthening systems, removing barriers, and supporting day-to-day operations, so the team can continue delivering meaningful mahi to the community, while also creating ease for the Board so they can focus on strategy and the long-term vision of SuperGrans. I truly value being able to utilise my expertise to contribute to the wider mahi of SuperGrans.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY OUTSIDE OF MAHI?
Outside of mahi, I’m a proud māmā to a confident and active seven-year-old girl. We’re an active whānau who enjoy being outdoors and taking part in socially competitive sports. This year we’ve started travelling around the motu for my daughter’s gymnastics competitions, which has been exciting for us all. I also enjoy giving back to our community where I can, whether that’s volunteering in governance roles across school boards and charities or putting my hand up to support the many sports and activities my girl signs herself up for.

We’re excited to share that our foodbank is now part of Game Changer NZ 🦌

This incredible initiative helps provide quality protein to foodbanks across Aotearoa by connecting hunters, butchers, and communities together. Hunters donate the deer, local supporters help fund the processing costs, and the meat comes back to our foodbank to help support local whānau.

💚 The need for kai support across our region has increased significantly, and we need continued support to help keep our foodbank running and ensure we can continue supporting whānau in our community.

Every contribution helps, whether it’s $5, $10, or simply sharing this post with others.

Here’s how it works:
• Your donation helps fund the professional butchering of a wild deer
• Once $120 is raised, a registered WGRT hunter gets the green light
• The deer is processed into venison mince
• The meat is packaged and sent directly to our foodbank
• Around 200 protein meals are then able to support local whānau

💚 Protein is one of the hardest food items for foodbanks to source, so this support can make a huge difference to the whānau we help — and the best part is that Game Changer NZ does all the organising!

If you would like to support us, you can donate directly to our Game Changer NZ page here:

A heartfelt ka kite to our wonderful Office Manager Beck, who has been part of the SuperGrans whānau for the past three years.

She’s been so much more than “admin” — she’s been the calm centre of the office, the friendly face, the one who keeps everything moving, and the extra pair of hands who jumps into the kitchen without hesitation. From sustainability projects and kai prep to the everyday mahi that keeps SGT humming, she has brought kindness, practicality, and a down-to-earth spirit to everything she touches.

We’re going to miss her warmth and genuine care for people, but we’re also excited for her next chapter — adventures up the beautiful East Coast, time on the land, and whatever new opportunities come her way.

Thank you for everything you’ve given to SuperGrans Beck. Go well, and know you’ll always be part of our story 🌿💚

On Monday night, GKR gathered with supporters, kai donors, recipient groups, and volunteers to celebrate an incredible milestone — 500 tonnes of kai rescued since October 2018.
It was a wonderful evening of connection, shared kai, and an epic vegetable display.

What an amazing achievement! That’s the equivalent weight of three whales 🐋 — just imagine how many whānau have been fed, how much has been kept out of landfill, and how many people, volunteers, groups, and organisations have been brought together through this kaupapa.

Thank you for all that you do for our community GKR, and for the exceptional leadership of Lauren.
