For the nights and day of ANZAC day we have turned De Molen lights to Red, the colour of the Poppy.
The mill will sit still and be set in the mourning position during this time as we honour, mourn and remember those ANZACs who served.
Lest We Forget...
The Netherlands was devastated during WWII, with entire towns and communities obliterated. Food, housing, clothing and work were just gone. Families were torn apart and many from the Netherlands had little choice but to leave their lives as they knew it and relocate to other countries to find a better life.
Many, very young people, often no more than teenagers, from the Netherlands travelled to places such as Canada, Australia and New Zealand not just for a better life but for a chance at life itself.
We know the people of the Netherlands will always be with those who supported them and other European citizens during and after the horrors of WWII.

UNFORTUNATELY. We have had to make the rather difficult decision to cancel the Big Dutch Day Out tomorrow the 18th.
This is due to the forecast weather being Wind and Rain.
Given the BDDO is predominantly an outdoor event the day would be less than fun with the predicted weather.
We have held off cancelling as long as practicable hoping against hope, however, we acknowledge that many folk will be travelling here for the day and we want to give everyone time to reorganise their weekend.
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience and wish you a safe and dry weekend.
See you next year.

Festivities kick off this Saturday with the Big Dutch Day Out at the Windmill (De Molen) in Foxton where people can enjoy Dutch art, culture, music, food, and games. πŸ§€πŸŽΌπŸŽ

This will be followed by more family friendly events across the country including Orange Bike Rides in several locations, vrijmarkten for the children at various Dutch clubs, colourful King's Day parties in Queenstown, Auckland and Christchurch, and a number of prominent buildings and monuments will light up in orange during the week. πŸš΄β€β™€οΈπŸŽ‰πŸ‘‘
