Tararua REAP

Tararua REAP Tararua REAP offers education and support services. Tararua REAP was formed in 1982 (initially under the name of Southern Hawkes Bay REAP).

The change of name occurred in 1999 when the Board decided that the name Tararua REAP better described the area they served. Tararua REAP is unique in its role as a provider, facilitator and broker of life long learning opportunities for the communities of the Tararua District. Tararua REAP's programmes, resources and services are based on filling gaps in education provision through innovation and

through the use of an extensive and comprehensive needs analysis process. The organisation is split into three operational sectors:
- Early Childhood
- Schools
- Adult Community Education

Each sector is lead by a Coordinator who is responsible for delivering programmes to local communities. The services provided by Tararua REAP are to be based on the following understandings and underlying principles:

REAPs are expected as part of their operations to routinely contact, network and liaise with all sections of their communities in order to achieve the outputs required. Tararua REAP services will seek to align with other education, health, welfare, labour market and social policy interventions and initiatives, so that resource provision is seamlessly integrated. Tararua REAP will combine national objectives with local priorities as identified by regular needs analysis across all sectors. REAP activity will empower local service provision and encourage independence.

🌻 What does the 🀍 White 🀍 Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Lanyard mean?

The white Hidden Disabilities Sunflower lanyard is worn by allies of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Scheme.

🌻 Not every disability is visible.

When we think of disabilities, we often picture something we can see. But many disabilities, conditions, and illnesses are hidden.

These can include:
πŸ’š Autism
πŸ’š ADHD
πŸ’š Chronic pain
πŸ’š Anxiety
πŸ’š Hearing loss
πŸ’š Diabetes
πŸ’š Epilepsy
πŸ’š Dementia
πŸ’š Many other physical, neurological, and mental health conditions.

Just because you can't see someone's disability doesn't mean they aren't facing daily challenges.

A little patience, kindness, and understanding can make all the difference. By learning more about hidden disabilities, we can all help create a more inclusive and supportive community. 🌻

🌻 We've Joined the Sunflower! 🌻

We're proud to share that REAP is now part of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower network. The Sunflower is a globally recognised symbol that helps people with non-visible disabilities discreetly indicate that they may need a little extra time, support, understanding, or assistance.

At REAP, we believe everyone should feel welcome, included, and supported. By joining the Sunflower network, we're taking another step towards creating a more accessible and understanding environment for our learners, whānau, and community. 🌻

Not all disabilities are visible, and sometimes a little patience and understanding can make a big difference. We look forward to learning more and continuing to make REAP a place where everyone feels they belong. πŸ’š

There's never a dull moment when the REAP team gets together for a day of learning and development! πŸ™Œ

A huge thank you to Brie Sergeant, Personal Safety Hawkes Bay, for delivering an incredible session on de-escalation and self-defence. Brie brought amazing energy, practical skills, and plenty of laughs, keeping everyone engaged from start to finish. The team walked away with valuable knowledge, increased confidence, and plenty to think about.

We also enjoyed an "Immune Boosters" session with Renee Timmins, where we got hands-on making our own natural cough medicine and an immune-boosting drink. πŸ‹πŸ§„πŸŒΏ

Safe to say we all learned a lot, and if you pop into the office this week, don't be surprised if there's a hint of garlic in the air! πŸ˜†

A great day of learning, connecting, and investing in our team's wellbeing. Thanks Brie and Renee for sharing your knowledge and passion with us!
