Massive congratulations to the AFS team — they smashed it again this morning at the Sky Tower.

52 flights of stairs, full firefighting gear, breathing apparatus, and all for an incredible cause supporting Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand.

That’s no easy task, and the effort, fitness, and determination shown by the crew is something to be proud of.

Results from the climb:
Scott – 12:46
Ed – 15:07
Cookie – 15:30
Amy – 17:14
Monz – 19:55
Kev – 19:54 (also representing Lyttelton Volunteer Fire Brigade)

An awesome effort by all six firefighters taking the long way to the top — via the stairs!

Well done team. AFS should be proud of every one of you. 👏🚒

Good luck to Cookie, Ed, Monz, Scott, Kev and Amy this weekend as they take on the incredible challenge of climbing the Sky Tower in support of blood cancer fundraising.

Every year, hundreds of firefighters from across New Zealand — and around the world — push themselves to the limit by climbing 51 flights of stairs in full firefighting gear, including breathing apparatus. It’s a massive physical and mental challenge, all for an outstanding cause.

Wishing Team AFS all the best for a strong climb, safe steps, and a huge effort on the day. Looking forward to seeing the photos and results afterwards. Go hard team! 🚒💪

The crew decided to partake in full Level 2s with BA and came away with the best-dressed team.

The team represented Christchurch Airport incredibly well across the tandem, relay and individual races.

Fliss Matheson placed 1st in the over 40 female running 3m 45sec (11th overall)

Amy Brown run a 3min 04 sec smashing 30 sec off her PB narrowly missing out on a Lions Den run. Placing 7th overall in the Female open

Edward Bowden placed 21st in the open male running 2min flat

Jackson Proud placed 9th in the open male running 1min 45 sec, narrowly missing out on a lions den run.

Chris Peat placed 4th in the overall 40 male running 2min 09 sec (30th overall)

Jack Gardiner (New Zealand Defence Force) relay team member - ran a 1min 44 sec placing 7th in the open male

It was an incredible weekend of camaraderie, encouragement, respect and fun. Strengthening friendships and networks with fellow fighters from around NZ.
Thank you to all those who have supported the team! We truly appreciate it.

Here’s to a new season filled with a lot of sweat, equity hopefully resulting in some new lions, new PBs and National titles.

We are always proud of the way these team members represent the Airport Fire Service and rhemselces, the hours they are putting to do what they do is remarkable.

Well done team, keep up the great work, you are inspiring many young, and old firefighters out there..

Today we celebrated our Chief Fire Officer Peter M, 50 year service to New Zealand Fire Services, in particular Christchurch Airport Fire Service. Peter started as a volunteer at the age of 18 with the New Brighton Volunteer Fire Brigade and then continued his service here at AFS. Pete was today presented alongside his friends, family, and colleagues, the United Fire Brigades Association 50 year service medal. This is the first 50 year service medal that has ever been presented to a New Zealand Airport Firefighter. A massive milestone to achieve. Pete, congratulations, it is very well deserved, enjoy your retirement in a few weeks... you have earned it.
