New Zealand Alpine Club

New Zealand Alpine Club NZAC is a community of 4000+ members, active in our mountains and crags since 1891. The club has over 3800+ members throughout NZ and overseas.

Established in 1891 the New Zealand Alpine Club (NZAC) exists to encourage mountaineering, rock climbing and allied activities, the enjoyment and conservation of mountain regions; and to bring together those interested in climbing. We publish an annual Alpine Journal and quarterly magazine 'The Climber'. Full Membership entitles you to both publications. Alternatively, they can be set up as indivi

dual subscriptions. See our website for a full list of member benefits and join today! https://alpineclub.org.nz/membership-benefits

Conservation Law Reform - What Climbers Need to Know

The Conservation Amendment Bill is currently in the process of becoming law. It has passed its first reading in Parliament and is now being reviewed by select committee. The public have the next two weeks, until the end of 2nd July, to make submissions to the select committee.

Why does this matter to climbers and other users of alpine spaces for recreation? New Zealand Alpine Club is concerned about multiple aspects of the proposed law reform and we outline those reasons and why we think it is important to make a submission.

Our guidebooks, journals, ClimbNZ and club publications are possible because of volunteers who give their time and expertise. Their work means you can plan better, climb safer and feel part of the community long after they have finished.

What is your favourite publication from the NZAC?

Thank you all for your mahi.

National Volunteer Week
Te Wiki Tūao ā-Motu

This Volunteer Week, we're celebrating the people who bring our calendar to life. From Crag Fest, Banff Mountain Film Festival, NiBS, Mature Mountaineers, Section Evenings, and the Photographic Competition our event volunteers give their time, so our community has places to connect, celebrate, be inspired and test their nerve.

None of it happens without them.
Tag your event volunteers to show how much we appreciate them.

Not every contribution to the club happens outdoors. Our Board and Section Committee volunteers work behind the scenes to keep NZAC strong, sustainable and heading in the right direction.

It's unglamorous work, and it matters enormously.

Tag your local committee volunteer or NZAC Board Member. We thank you for being an integral part of the community.

We will be highlighting other volunteers we couldn't do without during this volunteer week.

The Doctor, a Vicar and a Guide. it sounds like the start to a great joke. But Teichelmann, Newton, & Graham weren't a punchline, they were a true trio pioneering in the early 1900s.

Who are the people who've made a trip memorable for you, or who are you looking forward to getting out with this winter? Even better if it sounds like the start to a great joke!
Give them a shout out below!
