Christchurch Wastewater Treatment Plant update!

Aerator install on schedule

Good news to kick off this week's update – we now have four aerators in place on the ponds, which marks a major milestone for this project.

Work continues at speed, with four units in place and everything on schedule. We expect the eight large aerators to be installed by the end of the week, with commissioning set to begin early next week.

Progress continues on activated sludge reactor build

Stone column installation is back in full swing, with 1020 of about 1600 columns installed to date. The team remains on track to complete installation by the end of July.

On the pipeline installation, work has begun on excavating the trench for the next section. The framework has also been removed from the first section which be backfilled soon, marking another step forward.

Preparation is also underway for the next phase of construction, with planning and discussions progressing for upcoming concrete works scheduled to begin in August.

Check out the render below showing roughly what the activated sludge reactor will look like once complete.

A new study is giving us sharper insight into when and where open-coast sand dunes might be breached by the sea, which will help us prioritise areas for protection and monitoring 🌊

The research looks at how storm-driven coastal erosion and long-term sea-level rise could affect our sandy coastline, and how those changes could increase the risk of flooding from the sea.

Find out more about the report and how it will support work to reduce risk and build resilience 👇
