Hamish Campbell for Ilam National MP for Ilam

Authorised by H Campbell, 5/376 Ilam Road, Christchurch. Authorised by Hamish Campbell, Unit 2, 142 Ferry Road, Christchurch 8011

Growing up and now living in Ilam with my wife and two daughters, I have a deep connection to the electorate. I was educated at Christchurch Boy’s High School before moving to Dunedin to complete a PhD in molecular cell biology, specialising in cancer and viruses. I have built my career as a medical researcher and am currently the Deputy Head of Research for an Australian-based not-for-profit dedicated to multiple sclerosis research and advocacy.

Today marks the final day of Volunteer week. Whether it's coaching a sports team, helping at a school, planting native trees, supporting a charity, serving on a community board, or simply lending a hand to a neighbour, volunteers are the backbone of so much that happens across Ilam and New Zealand.

The latest stats show 53% of Kiwis give their time to volunteer. While these contributions don't always make the headlines, they make an enormous difference to the lives of those around us.

I am grateful to so many people around the elecorate who volunteer their time to help me. I have a great team of envelope stuffers, letterbox delivers, campaign teams and more. Thank you to everyone who helps me across our great electorate!

Welcome back to another edition of Hamish's hidden gems of Ilam.

When locals tell me I need to try something, I listen. The riceballs at Sush*time in Avonhead mall do not disappoint. If you are in the area, try them out!

It was great to join the Prime Minister Christopher Luxon today to officially open Christchurch Airport’s new freight apron. This is a major investment in the future of the South Island economy.

Proud to see Christchurch continuing to lead the way. 🛩

It was a pleasure to connect with the community at the 2026 Chocolatte International Foods Festival held at the FGS Buddhist Temple over the weekend.

There were some wonderful performances, workshop activities and delicious sweet and savoury food.

Thank you to everyone for making the festival such a welcoming event. 🥙🍛🥖🥞

The Kindness Collective is currently running their PJ Project, to supply warm winter PJ's to those that need it most.

My electorate office is a drop-off zone between now and the 29 June (5/376 Ilam Road). If you're able to help, pop into the office and drop off a pair of new pyjamas. Every donation will help bring warmth, comfort, and a smile to a local child this winter.

A big thank you to everyone that supports this fantastic community initiative!

Last night, Carol and I attended the BrainTree Wellness Centre Ball. The ball is held as a major fundraiser for the centre that does work to support those with neurological conditions.

It was great to connect with other supporters and raise vital funds for Braintree. The room was buzzing with energy and generosity, and we were proud to be there to support such a worthwhile cause.

It was great to spend the morning at Papanui Bush with my daughters and local volunteers helping plant native trees and restore one of Christchurch's special natural spaces.

When the First ships arrived in Canterbury, Papanui Bush was about 30 hectares, larger than the 22ha Riccarton that was already being leased by the Deans family. This area was logged within 5 years of the ships arriving. It was a privilege to work alongside other volunteers today to help get Papanui Bush back to something like its original glory. 🌳🌲🌴

Recently, our government committed to permanently double baseline funding the Queen Elizabeth II National Trust if re‑elected, giving the Trust long‑term certainty to work with farmers and landowners to protect New Zealand’s natural heritage. QEII covenants protect places the public conservation estate can’t reach, strengthening wildlife corridors and protecting threatened species. 🔵🔵🔵
