Kia ora team,

Just a friendly reminder that our Ako Hui meetings are being held tomorrow (Tuesday). Our Student Ambassadors will be available to direct you to the correct classes. The timings are below:

Rito Hub (Years 0-3): 9am or 1pm (in Rito 5 - Ashleigh's class, formerly known as Nikau)

Kowhai (Years 4-6): 10am or 2 pm (in Kowhai 13 - Cate's class)

Kahikatea (Years 7-8): 11am or 3pm (in Kahikatea 16 - Janet's class)

The first full day of school for 2024 is Wednesday 31st January. All Stationery packs are $20 and will be in your child's class ready for the first day.

We are looking forward to reconnecting with you all.

Kia ora e te whānau,
One of our students is missing her diamond skateboard similar to the one in the picture attached. This was left in by the scooter stands earlier this week and wasn't there when she tried to collect it on her way home. This skateboard was a gift from her sister and she is desperately wanting it returned.
If your child has accidentally taken this item home, can you please return it to school as soon as possible.

As part of our Matariki Art, eleven of our Year 7 and 8 students had their work selected to be displayed at Westfields Riccarton Mall, on Level 2, outside Sony. Work displayed is from Kirkwood Intermediate and Wharenui Senior Students.

Just a friendly reminder that school is closed this Friday (24 June) due to our first national Matariki public holiday. Check out our Linc-Ed Hero notice for details about our Matariki Art Exhibition that is happening tomorrow.

George and the team from the Christchurch City Council have been working in our hubs this week. The team have been promoting active travel when getting to school, as well as a student journey planning web tool that has been created exclusively for our school.

The webpage allows tamariki to create their own journey plan to school and see how they can get to school using active modes of transport (walking, cycling, scooting etc). We encourage you and your whānau to have a go using the tool, you can follow the link: https://maps.abley.com/ccc/school-journeys/wharenui/
Once a journey plan is created, you can download and print it. The trial webpage is only available for a couple of weeks, plenty of time to get creating.

Just a friendly reminder that this Friday 3rd June is our Staff Only Day. The school will be closed for students as our staff are heading to Tuahiwi Marae to take part in a Cultural Education workshop.

Monday 6th June is a public holiday for the Queen's birthday. We look forward to seeing all students back at school on Tuesday 7th June.

Uniform Sale
Friday 8 April: 8 am - 8.50 am in the Canteen area

There will be a selection of pre-loved school uniform available for purchase for $1 or $2 on Friday 8 April before school. Cash and Eftpos accepted. This is a great opportunity to stock up for winter!

Just a reminder that today (6 February) we commemorate Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tomorrow (Monday 7 February) is a public holiday.

Waitangi Day, the national day of New Zealand, marks the anniversary of the initial signing – on 6 February 1840 – of the Treaty of Waitangi, which is regarded as the founding document of the nation.

Bike the confident way – Adult Bike Skills sessions

These sessions are fully funded by Christchurch City Council, and will be run within COVID guidelines. These will be held at Wharenui School on the basketball court area.

Adult Bike Skills workshops at Wharenui Primary School the next 3 Tuesdays (8th, 15th & 22nd), 5:30-6:30pm.

Bike the confident way – Adult Bike Skills sessions

If you are new to riding, haven’t been on a bike for a while, or want to take your confidence to a new level, then Adult Bike Skills training with Paul Odlin is for you.

This course provides personalised advice in a supportive environment with the aim of giving you the confidence to ride across different road environments. The workshops are done in small groups of 4-6 people and you can also arrange a group session of your own with whānau, friends or colleagues. Participants must be 16 years and over.

These sessions are fully funded by Christchurch City Council, and will be run within COVID guidelines. These will be held at Wharenui School on the basketball court area.

Kia ora Whanau, Parents and Caregivers,

Ako Hui
Due to Covid-19 restrictions it has been necessary to make changes to our plans for starting the term.

Ako-hui will continue to happen on the 1st and 2nd of February. Your child/children have been allocated a time and day. An email has been sent out to everyone so please reply to this email to confirm the time and date suit.

If you are unable to attend at the time allocated to you, please contact your class teacher or our school office by phone or email. You may arrange another time later in the week or alternative arrangement can be made if you are unable to come into school (e.g google meet or phone call).

When you come to school there are health and safety protocols, that we are all familiar with, that we need to follow.
Please scan in as you pass through the school gates.
Please sanitize your hands and your children’s hands as you arrive at school.
Please wear a face mask. If you have an exemption, please bring a copy with you.
Children between Year 4 to 8 are also required to wear a mask inside the classroom at school.
Children between Year 0 to 3 may wear a mask if they feel more comfortable.
If your child has an exemption, please bring it with you.
If you are unsure about health and safety protocols or any other school information, please contact your class teacher or our school office.
