Few days in with Kaitiaki Rangers of Te Wai Mauri focusing on w**d control. Searching for remnant bits of English ivy. Still a few bits around.....25 years of control. First 10 on initial control over 60 hectares, 15 on maintenance control. Overall looking amazing! Very proud of what we are achieving here.

Over the last few weeks we have been working on upgrading and refilling our bait station network to control rats. Had a few wonderful nature moments...including having a little toutouwai /bush robin visit. Right in the middle of the bush!

Exciting!

We have also been looking at what lizard species are still around and can confirm raukawa gecko, barking gecko and northern grass skink are present. Hopefully forest /ngahere gecko will turn up in the retreats in the future!

Nice opportunity to vote for your favorite plant!

What's your favourite plant? 🌿

The NZPCN favourite plant vote is back for 2025 with a twist. This year we have restricted the candidates down to just 40 species vying for your vote. The criteria of these candidates being native species most threatened by climate change.🌪⛈

Whether its the risk of being directly washed into the sea like in the case of the Wakanui woollyhead - Craspedia diversicolor or like the swamp akeake - Olearia telmatica having your wetland homes dry up. Climate change poses a huge risk to our fantastic native flora. 🌳

To vote head to the NZPCN website or follow the link in the comments below. Make sure you share who your voting for and encourage your friends whānau and community to get amongst. Voting closes midnight 14th December.
