Youth Week is always a busy time for Marlborough Youth Trust, and this week was definitely no exception!
Following the debate came the unveiling of our “Garden of Voices” mural — and honestly… wow, just wow. What an incredibly special moment for everyone involved.
This beautiful piece of artwork represents exactly what Youth Week and this year’s kaupapa, “Our Voices Matter! We Deserve to Be Heard | Taringa whakarongo! Ki te reo o ngā taiohi,” is all about. Every brush stroke, every colour, and every detail reflects the voices, creativity, and whakaaro of our rangatahi.
As a manager, I felt extremely grateful watching this vision come to life. A massive shoutout to our amazing youth worker Canada Harmony — truly one of the sweetest souls — and to Alicia whose creativity and magic brought this mural to life. Together, alongside some very special helpers, they created something that will hold meaning for our young people and community for years to come.
There were also several rangatahi who really stepped up throughout the process, putting in time, effort, and heart to help make this happen. Seeing our youth take pride and ownership in something so positive was incredibly special.
And of course, special thanks to the lovely husbands of Canada and Alicia, who worked hard behind the scenes to help get the mural onto the wall. So much love, teamwork, and dedication went into this project, and it truly showed.
This mural is more than just artwork — it’s a reminder that our young people matter, their voices matter, and when a community comes together with kindness and purpose, beautiful things can happen. 💙 thanks to Marlborough Youth Council for supporting this and our awesome rangatahi Ara Taiohi - Peak Body for Youth Development , Rātā Foundation , Marlborough District Council, MVIP - Marlborough Violence Intervention Project , fans
