Police have made five arrests as part of a coordinated Trans-Tasman crackdown on outlaw motorcycle gangs.

Taskforce Morpheus sees New Zealand Police join with Australian law enforcement agencies in a National Day of Action disrupting criminal offending.

This week Police across the country targeted members and associates of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club, laying 18 charges for fi****ms and class A and B drugs offences.

Detective Inspector Wayne Gray, from the National Gang Unit, says a raft of other illegal items have also been seized during searches across Auckland.

Elsewhere across the country, Police also carried out activity in the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Central and Tasman districts.

One warrant was executed in Te Atatū Peninsula, in west Auckland.

“At one property we have seized three AR-15 military semi-automatic rifles as well as fi****ms parts and ammunition,” Detective Inspector Gray says.

Meanwhile, other searches located numerous items of interest.

At a gang pad in the Takanini area, 400 bottles of alcohol and spirits were seized in relation to alleged breaches of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act.

Overall, more than $150,000 in cash and approximately $93,000 in jewellery was located. Quantities of M**A, methamphetamine and GBL were also seized.

Three patched members and two associates of the gang are facing criminal charges after this phase of Taskforce Morpheus.

Charges include unlawful possession of prohibited fi****ms and possession for supply of fantasy and possession for supply of methamphetamine.

“These illegal and violent activities that outlaw motorcycle gangs chose to involve themselves in are having impacts across many communities,” Detective Inspector Gray says.

“We welcome every opportunity to work with law enforcement agencies across borders, and this unified effort is continuing to put pressure on gangs.”

Police are committed to our communities’ safety, taking every opportunity to prevent harm and intimidation caused by gangs.

“Police will continue to target and disrupt the secretive and illegal activities these gangs are involving themselves in, which is resulting in serious charges being laid as is the case in this latest phase.”

Hedging their bets and attempting to hide in dense bush following a fleeing driver incident didn’t work out for one pair.

At about 8.25pm last night, Police spotted a vehicle on Waiwhui Conical Peak Road, Warkworth allegedly travelling at nearly twice the posted speed limit.

Waitematā Road Policing Manager, Inspector Jason Edwards, says the unit signalled for the vehicle to stop, however it failed to do so.

“No pursuit was initiated, however Police were able to track the vehicle as it travelled south before being successfully spiked in the Puhoi tunnel.

“The vehicle was quickly abandoned and two people were seen running into nearby bush.”

Inspector Edwards says the Police Eagle helicopter was swiftly overhead and able to follow the pair as they attempted to evade Police.

“A male and female were taken into custody a short time later.

“I’m pleased we were able to resolve this situation quickly.

“This reckless behaviour puts people’s safety at risk and Police remain committed to reducing the risk of harm by getting dangerous drivers off the road.”

An 18-year-old man will appear in North Shore District Court on 17 June charged with failing to stop, driving while disqualified and possession of cannabis.

NZ Civil Defence are testing the Emergency Mobile Alert (EMA) system on Sunday 14 June, between 6-7pm ⚠️📲

If you have a hidden second phone for your safety, we recommend turning it off or putting it in flight mode for the duration of the test (6-7pm on Sunday 14 June) to ensure it’s not discovered when the nationwide Emergency Mobile Alert is sent.

Some mobile devices set to silent mode will still emit a sound when the Emergency Mobile Alert test is sent, so switching to flight mode or turning off your device is the only way to avoid the loud sound of the alert.

You can find more information about the Emergency Mobile Alert system, including a factsheet and list of FAQs at 🚨 https://getready.govt.nz/en/prepared/ema

Police are laying charges following a serious assault at a west Auckland masjid last night.

Police were called to Masjid As-Salam on Akatea Road, Glendene at around 7.20pm.

One man was located with head injuries and transported to Waitākere Hospital in a moderate condition.

Acting Detective Inspector Megan Goldie, from Waitematā CIB, says the events involve parties that are all known to each other.

“I can reassure the community that this is a family-related dispute and is not an incident where individuals have been targeted,” she says.

“Police will allege that the incident has stemmed from an ongoing dispute between those involved.”

A 45-year-old man was arrested by Police last night.

He has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, appearing in the Waitākere District Court today.

Acting Detective Inspector Goldie says four other people were spoken to this morning.

Four men, aged between 19 and 22, have now been jointly charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

“Violence is unacceptable in our community, and these five men have now been put before the Court.”

A man who had his two most prized possessions pinched from his Westgate home while in the process of moving house is praising Police after their safe return 🐾

Police received a report relating to a catastrophic burglary at a Rush Creek Drive property on Saturday, involving the theft of two purebred British short hair cats.

Waitematā West Area Prevention Manager, Acting Inspector Nick Salter, says the owner returned to the property to collect the last remaining items, including his beloved furry felines, only to discover them missing.

“With furrious urgency, staff put their thinking cats on,” he says.

“The victim managed to speak with neighbours who had CCTV, and after a number of enquiries and some excellent teamwork, we managed to identify the alleged thieves.”

Acting Inspector Salter says both cats were located at an address in Massey.

Both furry friends have since been reunited with their owner – a pawsitively pawsome result.

“Despite our purrfect use of puns, I would like to remind our community that we take all crime seriously, including burglary and theft, and reports like this one will be followed up and those responsible for causing any harm and distress will be held to account.”

Three youths, aged 12 and 13, have been referred to Youth Aid Services.

Jubilation, pride and family were to the forefront of the most recent graduation, which saw 67 new constables ready to step into their districts on 1 June and continue their learning on the frontline.

Wing 395's future growth and development were themes of the speeches given at the 21 May graduation.

The Royal New Zealand Police College’s Director, Superintendent Sam Keats, spoke of the wing being shaped through their training and given “the building blocks for a bright and fulfilling career ahead.”

Deputy Commissioner Mike Pannett asked them to commit to a career of learning, saying they have much more to learn about themselves and their communities, “and much more to give and achieve” as they focus on being visible, reassuring and responsive.

Someone who has given much to the community is the wing’s patron, Heniaka August QSM (fondly known as ‘Nan’).

She advised the wing to remember they are part of the community they are serving.
