Police have made five arrests as part of a coordinated Trans-Tasman crackdown on outlaw motorcycle gangs.

Taskforce Morpheus sees New Zealand Police join with Australian law enforcement agencies in a National Day of Action disrupting criminal offending.

This week Police across the country targeted members and associates of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club, laying 18 charges for fi****ms and class A and B drugs offences.

Detective Inspector Wayne Gray, from the National Gang Unit, says a raft of other illegal items have also been seized during searches across Auckland.

Elsewhere across the country, Police also carried out activity in the Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Central and Tasman districts.

One warrant was executed in Te Atatū Peninsula, in west Auckland.

“At one property we have seized three AR-15 military semi-automatic rifles as well as fi****ms parts and ammunition,” Detective Inspector Gray says.

Meanwhile, other searches located numerous items of interest.

At a gang pad in the Takanini area, 400 bottles of alcohol and spirits were seized in relation to alleged breaches of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act.

Overall, more than $150,000 in cash and approximately $93,000 in jewellery was located. Quantities of M**A, methamphetamine and GBL were also seized.

Three patched members and two associates of the gang are facing criminal charges after this phase of Taskforce Morpheus.

Charges include unlawful possession of prohibited fi****ms and possession for supply of fantasy and possession for supply of methamphetamine.

“These illegal and violent activities that outlaw motorcycle gangs chose to involve themselves in are having impacts across many communities,” Detective Inspector Gray says.

“We welcome every opportunity to work with law enforcement agencies across borders, and this unified effort is continuing to put pressure on gangs.”

Police are committed to our communities’ safety, taking every opportunity to prevent harm and intimidation caused by gangs.

“Police will continue to target and disrupt the secretive and illegal activities these gangs are involving themselves in, which is resulting in serious charges being laid as is the case in this latest phase.”

A year-long Police investigation has dismantled a criminal operation, allegedly manufacturing and supplying methamphetamine in remote parts of the Far North.

Operation Phoenix, led by the National Organised Crime Group, sees 11 men facing serious charges with 34 search warrants being executed across Northland and Auckland in recent days.

The operation continues NOCG’s focus on those criminal groups profiting off drug manufacturing and supply in small and vulnerable communities across the country.

A large number of NOCG and Northland Police staff, supported by specialist groups have descended across parts of Kaikohe and Kaitaia during the termination phase.

Detective Superintendent Greg Williams, Director of NOCG, says numerous charges for serious drugs offending have been laid with the 11 men appearing in the Kaikohe District Court over recent days.

“From Ōpōtiki to Kaikohe, and beyond, we are sending a message that we will continue to target those in small communities manufacturing and dealing methamphetamine,” he says.

Police have recovered nine fi****ms during searches, along with ammunition, drugs and cash.

Items include:
- An Alfa Carbine pistol, Norinco .22LR rifle and a Mossberg 12g shotgun
- Three hundred rounds of ammunition
- Methamphetamine, including methamphetamine in the manufacture process
- Chemicals used in its manufacture
- Equipment used in its manufacture
- A cannabis grow room
- $15,000 in cash

Concerningly, Detective Superintendent Williams says the Alfa Carbine pistol was found loaded, and stashed, in a backpack in a child’s bedroom at one property.

“Police and the Northland community have had enough of this activity,” he says.

“The social harm caused by this criminal group has been significant and these warrants and arrests send a clear message to those dealing in this harmful drug and profiting from human misery.”

The 11 men have been appearing in the Kaikohe District Court over 10 and 11 June.

Those charged are men aged 27, 30, 32, 32, 38, 41, 43, 46, 51, 58 and 61 years old.

They are facing charges including manufacturing methamphetamine, possession for supply of methamphetamine, supplies methamphetamine, and participating in an organised criminal group.

NZ Civil Defence are testing the Emergency Mobile Alert (EMA) system on Sunday 14 June, between 6-7pm ⚠️📲

If you have a hidden second phone for your safety, we recommend turning it off or putting it in flight mode for the duration of the test (6-7pm on Sunday 14 June) to ensure it’s not discovered when the nationwide Emergency Mobile Alert is sent.

Some mobile devices set to silent mode will still emit a sound when the Emergency Mobile Alert test is sent, so switching to flight mode or turning off your device is the only way to avoid the loud sound of the alert.

You can find more information about the Emergency Mobile Alert system, including a factsheet and list of FAQs at 🚨 https://getready.govt.nz/en/prepared/ema

A thief with a sweet tooth is facing a row of charges after allegedly helping himself to hundreds of chocolate blocks in recent months.

The recidivist shoplifter, allegedly responsible for more than $9000 worth of stolen goods in one area of Auckland alone, was arrested on the weekend.

Auckland City West Area Prevention Manager, Inspector Wayne Kitcher, says a 35-year-old man is now facing 21 charges and has been remanded in custody.

“This is an example of some exceptional Police work, particularly by one of our intelligence officers, which led to this arrest.”

Inspector Kitcher says 19 of the charges relate to various shoplifting incidents across Auckland.

“It appears this person has allegedly targeted chocolate from various supermarkets across the city.”

He says in once instance the man allegedly stole more than $3000 worth of the sweet treat from a Te Atatū supermarket.

“Police is continuing to target prolific offending against retail businesses in our communities.”

He says people can report offending as it is occurring by calling 111, or by calling 105 after the fact.

Reports can also be made online by going to https://www.police.govt.nz/use-105 or anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The 35-year-old man first appeared in the Auckland District Court at the weekend, and is due to reappear on 26 August.
