Takeover alert: Argentina! ¿Qué onda? I'm Anthony and I look forward to showing you my life as an exchange student in Argentina this weekend. 🇦🇷

We asked AFS host families a simple question: Why does hosting an exchange student matter? Their answers might just change how you see the world. Take a look!

Unique Destinations of AFS: Panama!

Did you know Panama recognizes seven distinct Indigenous peoples, including the Guna peoples, where society is matrilineal (meaning women run the economy, inherit all property, and head the households)?

It connects two continents and has nearly 1,000 bird species (about 4x more than NZ, even though it's less than 1 third the size of our country!)

Panama City is the only capital city in the world with a protected tropical rainforest inside city limits.

The country's unique "S" curve makes it the only place on Earth where you can watch the sun rise over the Pacific Ocean and set over the Caribbean Sea.

Follow along for more diverse, unique destinations that AFS sends students to and their fun facts!

We're still buzzing from May's AFS Whānau Reunion. It was incredibly energising to see so many AFSers come together to catch up with old friends and to make new ones!

50+ AFSers came together at the Milford Cruising Club, chatted and mingled, enjoyed good food and filled the space with happiness.

From Bill (returnee 1958/59) and Raewyn (returnee 1959/60) to Lexie, a 2026 returnee, all ages were represented.

AFS t-shirts from across the globe were on display, photo memories were shared, and Lexie gave a wonderful presentation about her time in Türkiye as an AFS Gallipoli Youth Award winner in April this year.

A huge thank you our volunteer organising team and everyone who made our evening so fun ❤🎉

There’s no "cookie-cutter" AFS host family- a big heart is always the perfect fit ❤, Check out these stories of the magic hosting an AFS teen brought to:
- A family with little ones: Where the youngest still looks up at the night sky 6 months later and says, "The moon must look just like this in Germany where my big sister is!" 🥺
-A whānau with no kids: Who found a whole new spark of youthful energy and fun filling their home.
-A single-parent whānau: Who loved the experience so deeply they say they’d do it all over again in a heartbeat!

Family is what you make it, and love spans the whole globe. Enquire with us about hosting an AFS exchange student today 🌍

Letters from abroad: .Stepping into a new stage of life, finding a home away from home and noticing the small stuff are examples of the profound way an AFS exchange shifts perspective. AFS is sending 6 Kiwi educators on a fully funded, 6-week immersion into the heart of India, supported by the Prime Minister's Scholarship for Asia (worth over $10,000 per person).

The selected educators will be embedded at the prestigious Emerald Heights International School, collaborating with local teachers, sharing New Zealand culture with students, and bringing back a global perspective to transform their classrooms. The Diwali Festival on 6 November will be an absolute highlight 🎆🎇✨.

Applicants will need their school’s endorsement to apply.

You don't want to miss this!

India is a country of absolute magic. It’s a breathtaking intersection of ancient traditions, unbelievable street food, cricket-mad energy, and some of the warmest hospitality on the planet. The culture is vibrant, loud, and deeply beautiful.

As you know, AFS is all about intercultural exchange, and sometimes that happens right in your own home. We have 2 students from India looking to share their culture with a Kiwi whānau this Winter.

Click to see their profiles and interests, and DM to know more about the process!

Poignant moments our three AFS Gallipoli Youth Award recipients will remember about their time in Türkiye forever.

Takikawa, Lexie, and Tim travelled historic grounds and stayed with welcoming host families in Türkiye. By commemorating the war at the ANZAC service in Gallipoli (with the Governor General🩵), they honoured both their family's past and our shared mission for peace.

Thanks again to the AFS Türkiye, the AFS Educational Trust, the Michael Jull Memorial Trust, the NZ Embassy in Türkiye for helping us to make this experience possible.🕊
