🌳 Auckland has been named a Tree City of the World — for the seventh consecutive year.

Our city’s trees are a vital part of Tāmaki Makaurau’s identity, helping create a greener, cooler, and healthier place to live.

With around 480,000 trees and plants added in 2025 and thousands more planted each year by council, mana whenua, schools, and volunteers, Auckland continues to grow its urban ngahere and strengthen its natural heritage 🌿

Trees are an important part of the identity of Tāmaki Makaurau and its natural heritage.

🏘️ Council's Policy, Planning and Development Committee has endorsed two scenarios for potential changes to Plan Change 120 for feedback from local boards and iwi authorities.

What are the scenarios?

Scenario A: meets the Government’s mandatory housing requirements for walkable catchments around the city centre, metropolitan centres, rapid transit stops and five Western Line train stations. Much of the additional housing proposed in Plan Change 120 outside those areas would generally revert to the current Auckland Unitary Plan.

Scenario B: retains the Government's mandatory requirements while also enabling additional housing opportunities in some walkable catchments, around local centres and along frequent bus routes where there is strong access to jobs, public transport, infrastructure and services.

Auckland Council is seeking feedback from local boards and mana whenua on two scenarios for possible changes to Plan Change 120 following Government changes to Auckland's housing rules.

🚉 The Remuera train station has had restoration upgrades after a long delay.

We provided a community grant for restoration work at the station (which borders the Albert-Eden and the Local Board) in 2019, but these funds were not used and the project stalled.

However, Auckland Transport has carried out the important mahi.
