We had a great weekend celebrating with the Howick Photographic Society at their exhibition opening.

This year, the Society took their work out of the traditional gallery setting and into a public space, creating an exhibition that is accessible to everyone. It's been fantastic to see photography showcased in the heart of the community, with an exceptional collection of work on display from both emerging and experienced photographers.

Visitors also have the opportunity to purchase their very own limited-edition print. With 50 stunning images to choose from, there's something to suit every taste and a chance to take home a unique piece of local creativity.

The exhibition is on display at the Cultural Hub in Ormiston Town Centre, next to New World, and is open daily from 10am–4pm.

Be sure to check it out and support this talented community of local photographers.

🚧 Pakūranga Road and Ra Hihi intersection update
Following engagement and the completion of detailed technical assessments, Auckland Transport and Eastern Busway have announced they will be constructing an additional (third) lane to improve traffic flow through this key intersection.

📅 Construction is expected to take place from early June through to late July, with most work scheduled at night to minimise disruption.
🚲A bi-directional cycle lane will be built on the Pakuranga Plaza side of the road (no cycle lane on the northern edge as originally planned).
💵The cost of delivering the updated design is approximately $2.5 million.

An intersection design with three straight-through lanes and no curve was also investigated as an option. This option had comparable traffic throughput benefits; however, would have a higher cost due to its complexity with limited road space and extensive underground utilities (approximately $11 million). Approval from Auckland Council would be needed before further work on this option is undertaken.

You can find out more information about the changes (and the alternatives considered at www.easternbusway.nz/intersection

Need help understanding how our community grants programme works?

The Howick Local Board is proud to provide community grants to help individuals and organisations deliver events and activities in our community.

There's usually more applicants that we can afford so we prioritise events and activities that are being held in our area and can demonstrate strong benefits to the local community. There's things that we consider low priority (like fundraising, operational costs, or travel expenses) or won't fund at all (like alcohol or religious activities).

To help understand how our grants programme works, staff are running a free workshop.

📅 27 May 2026 2:30-4pm
📍 Botany Library

We expect there to be high demand for this session and there are limited spaces so it's vital you RSVP to [email protected]
