| Auckland City's Rescue Tender was dispatched to a fire call but has ended up completely trapped inside the engine bay.

The truck won’t move due to desperately low air pressure—and crews couldn't get ahold of mechanics because they’re all busy fixing other broken fire trucks across the city. Firefighters can't take the truck to the garage for a changeover because it literally won't budge.

At the exact same time, Auckland's high-reach ladder truck is offline, and the city's HAZMAT/Command Unit is already sitting in the workshop.

This is the terrifying reality of the frontline fleet crisis in our biggest city. It's a disaster waiting to happen. āŒšŸš’

The NZPFU has called off today’s strike as multiple crews are working at a fatal house fire in Auckland this morning.

We pay our respects to the family and community affected by this tragic loss of life.

We also recognise the impact on those responding and will continue to work at the scene including the fire investigation team.

Last week we cancelled a strike for the same reasons in Christchurch.

The loss of life in these circumstances are tragic and the withdrawal of the strike is just one way in which we can support our members.

Last night a Christchurch family suffered a devastating fire where one child has reportedly perished and left other members of the whānau in serious condition.

The NZPFU National Committee has decided to call off the nationwide one-hour strike (which was scheduled from 12 noon today) in recognition of the impact of the fire on the whānau, their wider support network and in recognition the loss and devastation will be widely felt by Christchurch and ripple through the country.

We acknowledge the efforts of all those that responded including the 111 emergency dispatchers and the firefighting crews with work continuing today with fire investigation members and the impact this incident will have had on them all. We stand in solidarity with you and calling off the strike is just one way we can demonstrate that support.

The NZPFU will continue with the usual Local debrief by video conference at 3pm to detail more fully the circumstances and to discuss other pressing matters including Locals being called to appear before the Parliamentary Governance and Administration Committee to give evidence in the inquiry into FENZ’s fleet and other matters.
