✨ Mānawatia a Matariki! ✨

Meaning to honour, acknowledge, and welcome in Matariki!

This week in New Zealand we celebrate the rising of Matariki. The rising of Matariki represents the Māori new year.

Matariki has several names including – Pleiades in Greek Mythology, Messier 45 (USA) , Subaru in Japan, the seven sisters, Mataliki in Tokelau, Niue, Tuvalu, Uvea and Futuna, and Matali’i in Samoa.

This is a time when we will be honouring those we have lost since the last rising of Matariki, gathering together to give thanks for what we have, and looking forward to the promise of a new year.

A huge appreciation of service after 32 years with Queensland Police (and a stint with AFP) ACWAP President Deborah Platz has taken a new role as Deputy Commissioner of NSW SES. From all of us at IWPC 2023 we wish her all the success in her new role and know she will excel as she always does.

Paddy was all smiles and welcomed Deputy Commissioner to her new role.
