Te Pouhere Sunday.
One God and 3 persons. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Holy Trinity reminds us that the very heart of God is relationship, communion, mutual love, and community within diversity. Today, on Te Pouhere Sunday, we celebrate something profoundly connected to that mystric. We celebrate Anglican church, here in Aotearoa, New Zealand, and in Polynesia. A church that seeks to embody unity without demanding uniformity. Our church made up of 3 tikanga: tikanga Maori, tikanga Pakeha and tikanga Pasefika. Distinctive peoples, languages, histories, and cultural expressions, yet bound together in covenant under Christ. The word Te Pouhere means ‘which binds together’. It is not merely an organisational structure; it is a theological statement. It declares that our unity is not found in being the same. Our unity is found in Christ.
