“As girls, we’re always told by society that we should be patient, be tolerant. But that should not be to the point of losing ourselves.”

Meet Rachana. Raised in a supportive family of five, she grew up with values rooted in kindness and doing what is right. She is gentle, yet firm; compassionate, yet unafraid to speak up.
Now 17, her days begin early, helping her family deliver milk. Having recently completed a diploma in Computer Studies, Rachana not only uses her time training to be a barista, she is also a Rupantaran facilitator in her community. As such, she helps young girls like herself understand the harms of child marriage and map out better futures for themselves.

Rupantaran is an initiative under the UNFPA-UNICEF Global Programme to End Child Marriage, generously funded by the Governments of Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, the United Kingdom, and Zonta International.

In Madhesh Province, data took centre stage.

The National Statistics Office (NSO) recently brought together the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers (OCMCM), the Provincial Planning Commission (PPC), and partners from the areas of finance, health, WASH, nutrition and education for a joint data dialogue in Janakpur.

Drawing on the latest findings from the Nepal Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (NMICS) - conducted by the NSO in partnership with UNICEF - the discussion focused on one thing: how better data leads to better decisions. From shaping policies to guiding budgets and sector plans, timely and disaggregated data can sharpen how provinces respond to the needs of children and communities.

Stronger use of official statistics at the sub-national level means planning that is more responsive, more targeted and more equitable.
