Today, Scott Anderson, Ph.D., P.E., former senior official at the U.S. Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and now Principal Geotechnical Engineer at BGC Group, USA delivered an impactful presentation on “Risk-Based Management of Geo-Assets and Geo-Hazards for Building Resilient Highway Infrastructure.” The session was chaired by Director General Dr. Bijaya Jaishi.
Dr. Anderson outlined the evolution of U.S. road asset management—from early rock-hazard mapping to national bridge and pavement management, transportation asset management, performance management, and ultimately geotechnical asset management.
He highlighted three key modern tools—Aerial LiDAR, Satellite-based InSAR, and Spatial Data Management—and explained their applications in geo-hazard monitoring and asset management. He also discussed ongoing LiDAR and InSAR developments in South Asia and how Nepal can effectively benefit from these advancements.
Dr. Jaishi appreciated the insights shared by Dr. Anderson, highlighted Nepal’s ongoing LiDAR and InSAR initiatives, and emphasized the importance of applying these learnings to strengthen Nepal’s highway resilience.
