20th August: Another hectic but exciting day for SAIEVAC in Kathmandu!

It was a real heartwarming moment and privilege to meet with Secretary Krishna Bahadur Raut of the Ministry of Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minorities and Social Security after 12 years. The last time we met was in Pokhara in 2014 during the Regional Conference on SAIEVAC Academy, when he was the CDO in Pokhara.

The meeting with the Secretary was preceded by the Signing of the Grant Agreement with Mr. Durga Chalise, Under Secretary and officials which was followed by the briefing with Mr. Chakra Bahadur Budha, the Joint Secretary.

5 Aug: wonderful to catch up with Dr.Kiran Rupakhete and Noor Jung Shah to brainstorm on the CRC Reporting process and the possible options to put together a comprehensive report that captures the process made in Nepal since the last report submission to the CRC Committee.

Dr.Kiran was the longest serving SAIEVAC National Coordinator during his tenure as Under Secretary in the MoWCSC and fully conversant with the SAIEVAC journey over the years.

03/8: From the World Summit on Children in 1990 to the UNGA Special Session on Children in 2001 to the Global Study on Violence Against Children in 2006 to the full fledged launch of the SAIEVAC Movement in 2010 and the Institutionalised and targeted mission to drive efforts to end violence against children in South Asia which continues in all the SAIEVAC Member States…much has been achieved …but much more remains to be done….

As we gear up for the Second Global Ministerial Meeting on Ending Violence Against Children in Manila in November 2026, SAIEVAC mechanisms and the SACG Agencies must invest dedicated efforts to build our own advocacy…and lobbies to ensure that children’s voices are heard loud and clear ….

29/7: Happy to welcome my dear friend Mr.Sanjay Gupta, Chairperson, NACG EVAC India at the SRS today. He is in Kathmandu to participate in the Regional Hybrid Webinar to observe the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons being held tomorrow afternoon, Organized by SAIEVAC and NACG Nepal in partnership with the SACG/ATSEC and Tdh Foundation.
