USAID-Nepal contributes more than $80 million each year to the country's development, and other Embassy and State Department programs encourage mutual understanding between the United States and Nepal.

Thank you for being part of U.S. Embassy Nepal’s Ascent Summit 2026!

The Summit brought together more than 1,400 climbers, expedition leaders, athletes, innovators, outdoor brands, tourism professionals, rescue experts, storytellers, and members of the mountain community to explore the future of Everest, adventure tourism, and Himalayan exploration.

From keynote and closing remarks and panels to cultural performances and interactive exhibits, the Summit highlighted how Nepal’s mountaineering heritage and American innovation can support safer expeditions, stronger partnerships, and new opportunities for both nations.

We were also honored to recognize the 14-member Elite Sherpa Team, also known as the Everest Rope Fixing Team, whose skill and courage help create safer routes for climbers from around the world, including Americans.

A special thank you to all of our speakers, moderators, performers, exhibitors, partners, collaborators, and attendees for making this Summit possible.

The conversations do not end here. The United States remains committed to working with Nepal to advance innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic growth and we look forward to Nepal’s continued rise as a global destination for adventure tourism.

Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy Sarah B. Rogers delivered keynote remarks and joined the Honorable Sumnima Udas, Chair of Parliament’s International Relations Committee, at Ascent Summit 2026 to underscore strong ties between the United States and Nepal through entrepreneurship, and innovation.

The Summit brought together more than 1400 climbers, expedition leaders, innovators, outdoor brands, and tourism leaders to explore how Nepal’s mountaineering heritage and American innovation can make expeditions safer and strengthen Nepal’s adventure tourism sector.

In her keynote remarks, Under Secretary Rogers emphasized that American products and expertise, from high-quality outdoor gear to communication tools designed for extreme mountain conditions, support Nepal’s tourism economy and create new opportunities for United States businesses.

The United States continues to cooperate with Nepal to advance innovation, and economic growth for both nations and to strengthen Nepal’s rise as a global destination for adventure tourism.

U.S. Embassy Nepal welcomes Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy Sarah B. Rogers to Nepal!
In Nepal, Under Secretary Rogers will deliver the opening keynote address at Ascent Summit 2026 and meet with senior government officials, American Chamber of Commerce members, and U.S. program alumni, where she will advocate for freedom of expression and digital freedom as foundations for open societies and economic prosperity.

She will also visit the historic Patan Durbar Square and seven U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) sites to showcase the United States’ support for Nepal’s cultural heritage preservation and underscore U.S. commitment to protecting sites that remain central to Nepali community life, religious practice, and tourism economy.

From storytelling to securing investment, future and current entrepreneurs honed their pitching skills during the American Center’s recent SkillUp program, “Pitch to Win :Telling Your Story & Raising Funds with Impact.”

The session, hosted live at the American Center in Kathmandu and broadcast to American Spaces nationwide, featured U.S. government program alumnus and CEO of Karkhana Pavitra Gautam, who guided participants on building and delivering powerful pitches, crafting elevator and investor pitch decks, understanding their audience, and avoiding common pitching mistakes.

The SkillUp Series continues to prepare Nepal’s young business leaders to grow sustainable ventures by equipping them with the skills to pitch effectively and attract funding. Through expert-led sessions, mentorship, and hands-on learning, the series fosters innovation, strengthens U.S.-Nepal collaboration, and contributes to shared economic opportunity and prosperity.

At U.S. Embassy Nepal’s Ascent Summit 2026, Public Affairs Chief Mike Harker will join the keynote session “Climbing Everest, Building Partnerships” through a special virtual conversation, sharing his Everest experiences, reflections, and lessons.

On May 20, 2026, at 9:10 AM, Mike successfully summited Mount Everest, becoming the first serving American Foreign Service Officer to scale the world’s highest peak.

Moderated by Sanjay Gupta, the session will explore resilience, leadership, partnerships, and the realities of the mountain through stories shaped by Everest itself.
