The Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) Project marked its successful conclusion with a Project Closure and Handover Ceremony, bringing together government representatives, development partners, local leaders, and other key stakeholders.

The event was honoured by Chief Guest Dr. Sanjay Kumar Yadav, Secretary of the Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives (MoLMAC), Madhesh Province; Special Guest Sujin Yeo, Deputy Country Director of KOICA 네팔 사무소 (KOICA Nepal Office); and Laura Jalasjoki, Country Representative of GGGI Nepal, who chaired the event.

A key highlight was the formal handover of project assets, activities, and strategic deliverables to MoAFE, MoLMAC Madhesh Province, and local government.

Dr. Sanjay Kumar Yadav underscored the importance of sustaining and scaling the project’s achievements: “The project may have come to an end, but our responsibility to preserve, institutionalize, and scale up its achievements begins now.”

He also highlighted the Custom Hiring Centre model as a practical approach to providing farmers with timely access to agricultural machinery and services.

Sujin Yeo, Deputy Country Director of KOICA Nepal, emphasized continued ownership and collaboration: “While today marks the formal completion of the project, I hope the work does not stop here. The facilities, knowledge, and experience developed through this project should continue to serve the communities.”

Laura Jalasjoki, Country Representative of GGGI Nepal, reflected: “Today is not simply the closing of a project. It is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements we have made together and, more importantly, to look ahead to how these achievements can be sustained and scaled.”

Mayor of Mithila Bihari Municipality Mr. Rajendra Prasad Yadav shared, “CSA technologies and irrigation facilities have enhanced farmers’ productivity and reduced climate-related losses. The government, development agencies, and other stakeholders should join hands to scale up these good practices.”

The CSA Project supported 10 municipalities across Dhanusha and Mahottari, contributing to 10 Municipal Climate-Smart Agriculture Plans and 10 Local Emergency Operation Centres. It also established more than 350 irrigation schemes, benefiting over 2,000 farmers. The Terai Agribusiness and Enterprise Challenge Fund supported agribusiness development, green employment, and pathways for mobilizing private investment and green finance.

🌱 From Climate-Smart Agriculture to New Business Connections: CSA Entrepreneurs at K-Connect 2026

The Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) Project, supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and implemented by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), provided its agribusiness beneficiaries with an exciting opportunity to participate in K-Connect: Promoting the Entrepreneurship Ecosystem in Nepal, held in Kathmandu on 6 August 2026.

For the CSA entrepreneurs, K-Connect was more than an event—it was an opportunity to step beyond their local markets and connect with Nepal’s wider entrepreneurship ecosystem.

The event brought together entrepreneurs, financial institutions, investors, mentors, government representatives and development partners, creating a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, networking and access to potential financing.

🌾 CSA beneficiaries actively engaged in the event through:
• Sharing their enterprise success stories and experiences
• Presenting their businesses through business pitching sessions
• Participating in one-to-one consultations with experts and business mentors
• Connecting with banks, investors, private-sector actors and development partners
• Receiving practical feedback to strengthen their business strategies and growth plans

The participation of CSA beneficiaries reflects the project's broader contribution to building a stronger and more resilient climate-smart agribusiness ecosystem in Nepal. The CSA Project has supported 109 climate-smart agribusinesses, more than 5,300 beneficiaries through entrepreneurship grants and training, and contributed to the creation of 750 green jobs.

Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) Nepal invites eligible manufacturers and suppliers to submit proposals for the 2026 Shortlisting of Electric Mini- and Microbuses (EMBs) under the Sustainable Electric Transport for Nepal (SET4NPL) project.

The annual shortlisting process aims to include newly introduced electric mini- and microbus models and additional suppliers, supporting Nepal's transition towards cleaner, more sustainable public transportation.

Financed by Mitigation Action Facility and jointly implemented by GGGI and GIZ Nepal, SET4NPL project seeks to accelerate the deployment of 3,500 electric mini- and microbuses across Nepal through an innovative incentive scheme that includes financing mechanisms, charging infrastructure, maintenance support, digital ticketing, GPS, and other essential services.

Sustainable Electric Transport for Nepal (SET4NPL) project, financed by Mitigation Action Facility and jointly implemented by GIZ Nepal and Global Green Growth Institute - GGGI in collaboration with the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, brought together representatives from the federal, provincial, and local governments, transport authorities, development partners, academia, and transport operators to discuss the future of route planning in Nepal.

The workshop, in collaboration with Society of Transport Engineers Nepal - SOTEN, focused on key challenges such as fragmented institutional responsibilities, the lack of integrated transport data, route overlap, and the need for scientific, demand-driven planning. Participants also explored practical solutions, including digital route permitting systems, centralized GIS-based route databases, travel demand surveys, improved inter-agency coordination, and policy measures to support Nepal's transition to electric public transport.

The insights and recommendations generated through the workshop will contribute to building a more efficient, data-driven, and sustainable public transport system aligned with Nepal's mobility and climate ambitions.

🌍 Why should Corresponding Adjustments be planned from the very beginning of an Article 6 mitigation activity?

As Nepal advances its participation in Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement, planning for Corresponding Adjustments (CAs) from the outset is essential to ensuring environmental integrity and maximizing the benefits of international carbon market cooperation.

Early planning helps Nepal:
✅ Strengthen institutional coordination across government agencies.
✅ Safeguard the achievement of its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
✅ Provide greater certainty to investors and project developers.
✅ Align mitigation activities with national climate and sustainable development priorities.

Rather than being viewed as a procedural requirement, Corresponding Adjustments can serve as a strategic tool to support credible climate action, attract high-quality investment, and enhance the effectiveness of international cooperation.

Through the Article 6 Carbon Transaction Initiative Fund (ACTIF), GGGI continues to support the Government of Nepal in building the institutional and technical foundations needed for transparent and effective participation in international carbon markets.

The rapid growth of in Nepal is transforming the automotive sector and creating new opportunities for skilled technicians. However, many mechanics trained to service petroleum-based vehicles have had limited access to practical, industry-relevant training in EV technology.

To bridge this gap, Sustainable Electric Transport for Nepal (SET4NPL) Project—financed by Mitigation Action Facility and implemented by GIZ Nepal and Global Green Growth Institute - GGGI—has started a 60-hour EV Skills Upgradation Training.

Conducted by Abhiyantriki Karmashala, the training provides mechanics with hands-on skills in EV systems, diagnostics, battery handling, and safety practices to support Nepal's transition to electric mobility.

The first cohort has brought together 25 aspiring EV technicians, marking the beginning of a wider effort to strengthen Nepal's green transport workforce. Through this initiative, the project aims to train 100 individuals in 2026, helping build the skilled workforce needed to support the country's transition to sustainable electric transport.

🌍 How can countries trade carbon credits without counting the same emission reduction twice?

As Nepal prepares to participate in international carbon markets under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, corresponding adjustments play a critical role in ensuring transparency, preventing double-counting, and maintaining environmental integrity.

Through the Article 6 Carbon Transaction Initiative Fund (ACCTIF), GGGI is supporting Nepal in strengthening the governance, accounting systems, and institutional capacity needed for credible Article 6 cooperation. 🌱 How do we ensure that carbon market projects deliver real climate benefits?

As Nepal advances its readiness for Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, maintaining environmental integrity is essential. Carbon market cooperation must result in real, measurable, and sustainable emission reductions while supporting national development priorities.

Through ACCTIF, GGGI Nepal has been working closely with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forests and Environment (MoAFE) to strengthen the country's institutional capacity for implementing high-integrity carbon market activities.

By strengthening governance, due diligence, and technical review processes, Nepal is building a robust foundation for credible carbon market participation that contributes to both climate action and sustainable development.

Key elements include:
✅ Environmental Integrity – ensuring mitigation outcomes are real, additional, permanent, verified, and transparently accounted for to prevent double counting.

✅ Additionality – demonstrating that projects go beyond business-as-usual and require carbon finance to become viable.

✅ High-Integrity Assessment Tools – including sustainable development assessment frameworks, environmental and social safeguards, and standardized technical evaluation templates to support transparent and consistent decision-making.
