The Programme Technical Committee (PTC) of the NCCSP2 convened on July 25th and 26th, 2024, in Kathmandu, with key stakeholders in attendance. The meeting was a collaborative effort with representatives from various ministries, the National Planning Commission, local governments, and the British Embassy in Kathmandu. During the meeting, detailed insights into the programme’s achievements and experiences were shared. Furthermore, the meeting focused on establishing a framework for knowledge and skill transfer to bolster future initiatives in climate change adaptation and resilience.

115 families in Fungra Ward No. 5 Sinja is having regular water supply after Sinja Rural Municipality implemented the Fungra Solar Lift Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation Project with NCCSP2 support. The project protected spring sources, lifted water from nearby sources with solar lifting system, built water reservoirs, and provided each household private tap. The project has been successful in transforming lives of the residents. Women no longer need to spend time fetching water, children can attend school regularly, and fresh vegetables are grown in kitchen gardens.

Progressing the construction of Kaprechaur Jarikholi Irrigation Scheme in Chhatreshwori, Salyan. This is an adaptation intervention that aims to enhance agricultural productivity and water management. Supported by NCCSP2, the scheme is set to provide year-round irrigation to 65 households, reducing reliance on unpredictable rainfed agriculture. The initiative also focuses on environmental conservation, with measures like protective fencing and planting of native trees around the water source. This multifaceted approach not only secures a stable year-round supply but also strengthens the economic and ecological resilience of the local community.

Progressing the construction of a 54-meter retaining wall in Sarkegad, Humla. This is a significant step towards enhancing community resilience against natural disasters. Supported by NCCSP2, the "Rahdev Gaun Muni Landslide Control Project" is a testament to proactive local government and community engagement. By following a meticulous seven-step planning process, the Sarkegad Rural Municipality is addressing climate-related threats and safeguarding vital assets. The project not only protects 35 houses and one hectare of agricultural land but also instils a sense of security among residents, contributing to their overall well-being and allowing residents to rest easier, especially during the monsoon season.

The Hattisude Drinking Water Scheme is a testament to the power of community-led initiatives in tackling environmental challenges. Implemented by the Bheriganga Municipality and supported by NCCSP2, this project has successfully addressed the critical issue of water scarcity in Bheriganga Ward No. 4. The dwellings previously faced a dwindling water supply, exacerbated by climate change and high demand, coupled with health risks from contaminated sources. The implementation of the scheme has secured a protected water source, which is stored and distributed via pipeline, ensuring a reliable supply of clean water to 489 households in Hattisude, Amalyachaur, and Bahunichaur. This initiative not only secures the immediate water needs of the community but also contributes to long-term water sustainability and the overall wellbeing of the residents.

Kamala Rana, a farmer in Gauthali Danda, has witnessed a significant transformation in her community's agricultural practices. The introduction of mini tiller, subsidized by the NCCSP2, has mechanized farming for 313 families, including Kamala's. This tiller has halved the time required for ploughing, a task traditionally done with oxen, thus allowing farmers to complete it within a single day. Although Kamala herself did not receive a tiller, she benefits from the communal sharing system, which allows access to the equipment for a nominal fee. This advancement has not only simplified paddy planting but also offered Kamala and her fellow villagers more time for personal wellbeing and additional income-generating activities. The project's support extends beyond machinery, with improvements in irrigation through an RCC canal and the adoption of bioengineering techniques, further enhancing agricultural efficiency and sustainability in Gauthali Danda.

Patarasi Rural Municipality, with support from NCCSP2, is making significant strides in enhancing community resilience against climate change in Jumla. With the construction of a 54-meter river embankment along the Juwa River is a significant step towards mitigating flood risks. This proactive measure is set to protect 136 households and preserve three hectares of vital agricultural land, which is crucial for the food security and economic stability of the local community. Such infrastructure projects are essential in building resilience against natural disasters, safeguarding both people and their means of subsistence.

Bamboo Crib Wall Replication in Gairakhet Village
In 2023, Aathbis Municipality installed a bamboo crib wall in Sigaudi Village, Ward No. 2 with the support from NCCSP2. This innovative structure, known for its strength, flexibility, and sustainability proved to be one of the best nature-base solutions for protecting land and livelihoods. As bamboos sprout from each, it not only prevents erosion but also provides bamboo resources for community for rituals and domestic use. Encouraged by its success, the municipality is now replicating this approach in Gairekhet Ward No. 7, aligned with Local Adaptation Plan of Action (LAPA) framework. Construction is underway, and upon completion, it will safeguard farmland and nearby settlements, directly benefitting 102 households (510 individuals).
