Janaki mandir

Janaki mandir Janakpur temple is dedicated to Hindu goddess Sita. This is one of the important models of Rajput architecture in Nepal.

Goddess Sita is consort of Hindu God, Ram and (avatar of Vishnu – the creator) and is an avatar of Lakshmi (goddess of wealth and wife of Lord Vishnu). She is said to be daughter of earth goddess and adopted daughter of King Janak of Janakpur. She has been portrayed as an ideal daughter, an ideal wife and an ideal mother. The value that she enshrined and adhered to at every point in course of the

demanding life is the values of womanly virtue held sacred by countless generation of Nepalese and Indians. The temple was built at a cost of 900000 rupees which is why the temple is well known as Naulakha mandir: meaning temple of nine lakh rupees.
