Sermathang is a mountain village at the altitude of 2700m about 200km north east of Kathmandu, with around 1000 people residing in 150 houses. It is a beautiful tourism centre, close to Langtang National park and is surrounded by snowcapped mountains. t of the people here used to be farmers with potato as their main food crops. Now revenue from abroad (India, Gulf countries like Israel, Qatar, South Korea, North America) is another source of economy of people here. Tourism is another source of economy with only about 5% of population involved in it. Whole of the community follows Buddhism as their main religion and most of the culture, tradition and lifestyle are based on it. It is also regarded as one of the sacred pilgrim of Buddhist and area within 1km away from village is a non killing zone with imposition of fine if anybody is found following the rules as per traditional trust. Though most of the male member of community use to have sound knowledge about the Sambodda script(script used in learning Tibetan buddhism), only 15-20% have attained the formal education in school. Nearby is located a community school called Yangrima with about 200 students. It has been one of the key educating centre for Sermathang and surrounding villages.
