The Arctic Circle Center was officially opened on July 13, 1990, at the same time as the new E6 highway across the Saltfjellet mountains was completed. Inside the Centre, you will find the Arctic Bistro serving regional cuisine, a post office, a full-size cinema, and an extensive gift shop with a large variety of souvenirs. The Center is situated approx. 680 metres above sea level on the edge of the stunning Saltfjellet-Svartisen National Park. In the Saltfjellet mountains, there is abundant flora and fauna, and a large number of fishing lakes and if lucky you might see reindeers crossing the mountain. The Arctic Circle Center is strategically situated along the E6 Highway in the Saltfjellet mountains in the county of Nordland and constitutes a natural stop for all travellers along the road. The Arctic Circle Center is characterised by its unique architecture that has been adapted to the natural surroundings. The Arctic Circle is marked all the way through the building.
