Press Release:
Pakistan Friendship Group Established in the Norwegian Parliament.
A formal Pakistan Friendship Group (PFG) has been established in the Norwegian Parliament for the first time, marking a historic milestone in relations between Pakistan and Norway. The founding members of the cross-party Group include Labour Party MPs Farukh Qureshi, Trine Lise Sundnes i Arbeiderpartiet, Kamzy Gunaratnam, Jacobsen, Erik Hager & Kristine Løfshus Solli, and Progress Party MP Himanshu Gulati. The members met on 2 June 2026 at the Parliament and elected MP Farrukh Qureshi as Chair and MP Trine Lise Sundnes as Deputy Chair of the PFG.

Welcoming the establishment of the PFG, Ambassador Saadia Altaf Qazi stated that this significant initiative fulfils a longstanding proposal of the Embassy aimed at enhancing institutional engagement and cooperation between the Parliaments of Pakistan and Norway. She also commended the efforts of Chair Farrukh Qureshi and Deputy Chair Trine Lise Sundnes for their active role in mobilising parliamentary support for the formation of the Group.

Pakistan already maintains Pakistan–Norway Friendship Groups in both Houses of the Parliament of Pakistan. The Embassy reiterates its commitment to working closely with the newly established PFG in the Norwegian Parliament to further deepen bilateral understanding, dialogue, and cooperation.

Ambassador Saadia Altaf Qazi delivered a keynote address alongside Norway’s Deputy Foreign Minister/ State Secretary, H.E. Andreas M. Kravik, at an Open Seminar held yesterday at the Norwegian Parliament on the theme “From Oslo to Islamabad- What Norway and Pakistan can learn from each other's experiences in peace diplomacy.”
The discussions focussed on the importance of dialogue, peacemaking and multilateralism in an increasingly polarized world. Secretary Kravic delved on Norway's longstanding role as a global peace facilitator, and Ambassador Qazi highlighted Pakistan's resilience and sacrifices in global counter-terrorism and peacekeeping operations, its trust-based relations with regional and global players as well as its bridge-building role and peace efforts in past & present.

The Seminar underscored that despite different contexts, genuine peacebuilding demands dialogue, patience, and a mutual willingness to listen and learn across continents.

In the same Seminar, the historic foundation of Pakistan Norway Friendship Group in the Norwegian Parliament was also announced, which will be officially launched on 2 June 2026, opening a new chapter in Pakistan-Norway parliamentary cooperation.

The occasion also witnessed the reiterative rounds of applause by the State Secretary and the Ambassador for the productive role played by Pakistani diaspora in Norway in bringing the two countries closer.

The seminar was organised by the Storting’s Labour Party Parliamentary Forum led by MP Frode Jacobson, with particular assistance of MP Trine Lise Sundnes i Arbeiderpartiet, MP Farukh Qureshi, and senior politician/writer Chaudhry Khalid Mahmood.
