ORANGE AND LEMONS IN NORWAY. The Philippine flag flew and Filipino talent shone proudly in Kamay Sushi in Oslo and Fiskepiren in Stavanger, the venues for the concert of Filipino band Orange & Lemons (O&L).

O&L is one of the most popular Filipino indie pop alternative rock bands from the Philippines. It is composed of band leader, guitarist and vocalist Clem Castro, keyboardist Jared Nerona, bassist JM Del Mundo and drummer Ace Del Mundo.

It had two events in Norway: the first was in Oslo at the Kamay Sushi restaurant held on May 29, and May 31 at Fiskepiren in Stavanger. Both were organized by the newly-established-Norway based production house, Hiraya Nordic Production.

Local Filipino bands Big Uhaw from Haugesund, KAMAO from Bergen, and Terraces from Stavanger, provided the front acts for the O&L concert in Stavanger.

The Embassy continues to support Filipino artists and Original Pilipino Music, and is pleased to have been part of the O&L events in Norway.

MINISTER AUKRUST BRIEFS AMBASSADORS ON PROJECT TURNING POINT. The Embassy is pleased to have participated in a briefing for the Ambassadors from Asia and Oceania on Project Turning Point, conducted by Norway’s Minister for International Development Åsmund Aukrust (fourth from left), held on 28 May 2026 at the newly opened Government Building Complex in Oslo.

Project Turning Point is a year-long review of Norway's international development policies in light of new and extensive geopolitical, security and development changes that occurred in recent years. The new development policy would de-emphasize the traditional approach of aid as charity and donor-receiver relationships. Instead, development aid policies should be aligned to security and foreign policies and development assistance is towards building partnership and mobilization of domestic resources and private investment.

In his intervention, Ambassador Enrico T. Fos pointed out that Norway and the Philippines are aligned in the defense of multilateralism and rules-based international order, and in upholding human rights.

He also pointed out that the Philippines is ready to engage with Norway on climate change, reduction of emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, carbon market development, ocean and marine litter, social protection system and community resilience and on renewable energy development.

As the Philippines currently holds the ASEAN Chairship this year, Ambassador Fos, explained that the the country leads the 11-nation group under the theme "Navigating Our Future Together".

Also present during the briefing were the Ambassadors of Australia, China, Indonesia, Pakistan, Thailand and the Deputy Chiefs of Mission of India and Japan. (photo from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs)

OSLO MET SKOMP ALUMNI GATHERING

The Embassy thanks the Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet) for its invitation to meet the alumni of the supplementary nursing education (SKOMP) last week.

Since it was launched nine years ago in 2017, around 80 to 90 percent of the students are Filipino. This year, for the graduating class of 45 students, 40 are Filipinos.

In his remarks, Ambassador Enrico T. Fos, thanked OsloMet for the program that prepares Filipino nurses to be able to advance their careers in Norway.

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION IN BERGEN.

Under the theme “Kalayaan, Kasaysayan, Kinabukasan” (Freedom, History, Future), the opening salvo of the several events celebrating the 128th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence in Norway was held today, 24 May 2026, at Åsane Kulturhus in Bergen.

Under the banner of the United Filipino Organisations in Bergen (UFOB), with the Our Lady of Fatima (OLoF) under the leadership of Ms Rosemarie Lauvås and Father Cruf Climaco, the whole day Independence Day celebration attracted almost 500 Filipinos and Norwegians to watch a cultural show and partake of Filipino food.

Just before the formal start of the cultural program, a Holy Mass was celebrated by Father Climaco for the early comers of around 100 people.

This year’s Independence Day celebration’s cultural program showcased the musical talents of Marc and Jenneth Pecson, OLoF English Choir, Bård Ketil Halvorsen, Kasroy and Kasrel Gatus, Nisa, Anagil, and Mariz and dancing talents of Stord Dancers, Bergen dancers, and Groovin’ Mamas.

A highlight of the celebration was the recognition of the Filipino pioneers, those who have lived in Bergen and neighboring areas for at least 40 years, starting from 1986.

The tandem of Rico Santos of Bayanihan Norge and Georgina Magallanes of OLoF, who were the hosts of the cultural show, kept the program informative and lively.

In his remarks during the celebration, Ambassador Enrico T. Fos congratulated the lead organizers of the celebration, not only for successful event but also by starting a collaborative community effort among the various Filipino community organizations based in Bergen as well other organizations as far as Haugesund like Filcom Haugesund and Stord like Filnor Vennskapklubben.

He also encouraged them to continue working together towards a stronger and cohesive community.

The Philippine Independence Day event held today in Bergen is one of the many community-led celebrations all over Norway organized in cooperation with the Embassy.
