Ben Ward knows a lot about self-sufficiency, being a Brit living on a farm in rural Norway. Here are his top 3 tips for surviving the Norwegian winter ❄️

17/10/2025

Ben Ward is a Brit who traded city life for a self-sufficient, off-grid lifestyle on a farm in rural Norway. No running water, no indoor plumbing - just nature, hard work and a lot of firewood! 🌲⛰️

Pleasure to have Ben with us at the Embassy for the launch of his new book "Fjellgården Kroken" where he talks of his experience and love of Norwegian nature. While in Oslo, Ambassador Jan Thompson asked him some burning questions.

The EU's Entry-Exit System - or EES - comes into effect from today.

This means Brits entering the Schengen zone, which includes Norway, must register in the system upon entry.

Brits legally resident in Norway are exempt as long as they carry documentation to prove status, such as their residence card.

Last night, Ambassador Jan Thompson opened a screening of the National Theatre's production of 'King Lear' starring Sir Ian McKellen.

The performance is largely considered to be one of the best portrayals of the centuries-old character which still resonates with audiences to this day. The UK has a long history of excellence within the theatre, in large part thanks to our most celebrated playwright William Shakespeare. However, did you know that, after Shakespeare, the plays by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen are the most frequently performed in the world.

Therefore it was particularly fitting that the screening was hosted in the IBSEN Museum & Theatre. Thank you to all our partners, and to those who joined us!

It undoubtedly holds a special place in the hearts of most Norwegians, but the eternal question still stands: is it better than a Kit-Kat? 🤔 Discuss!

Known as 'the trip chocolate', Kvikk Lunsj has fuelled outdoor adventures for generations. So, what makes this chocolate so controversial?
