They can weigh up to 12 kg, live for 20 years, and their blood contains a natural antifreeze protein. Originally from the Pacific, introduced to the Barents Sea by Soviet scientists in the 1960s.

Pale, hard as a board, and older than most of the buildings in Norway. Meet stockfish.

Just cod, dried on wooden racks in the cold Arctic air until the wind and time do their work. No salt, no smoke. It's Norway's oldest export, traded for over a thousand years, carried by the Vikings and loved in Italy ever since a shipwrecked merchant took some home in 1432.

Inside every cod head there's a tiny stone called an otolith. Count the rings and you can tell the age of the fish; just like a tree!

According to old fishermen's legend, carrying one will bring you luck and make sure you return home safe. Pretty perfect for a keychain, if you ask us 🍀

The days are getting brighter, and out on the fjord you can feel the season turning. With better weather, the coastal fleet is picking up again and returning with fresh catches.

From our view here at Bruket, it’s always special to watch the activity on the water and in our factory Nordvågen As.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all of us at Bruket 🐟

As the year comes to an end, we want to thank everyone who has visited, worked with us, and supported us through an eventful year. It’s been busy and challenging, but definitely rewarding.

Here in North Cape it’s pitch dark for most of the day now, so our factory workers are now on a well-deserved holiday break, recharging their batteries.

But we’ve passed the turning point of the sun! So the days are slowly getting brighter again and we’re already looking forward to a busy next season and to welcoming new and familiar visitors in 2026.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of our year!
