Afgelopen zaterdag was het weer tijd voor de Nieuwe Ledendag in de Tweede Kamer! Ook wij vanuit D66 Internationaal verzorgden een sessie waarin we nieuwe leden een kijkje achter de schermen gaven van ons werk. Met een quiz en verschillende stellingen doken we in actuele geopolitieke vraagstukken. Leuk om te zien hoeveel enthousiasme er was! Uiteraard gingen de winnaars niet met lege handen naar huis 🩷💙

Nieuwe editie van Blik op de Wereld (VS) 🇺🇸

Onder leiding van Evita Rozenberg-Lazić spraken we over de opkomst van Zohran Mamdani en hoe het digitale tijdperk politieke campagnevoering verandert. Met waardevolle inzichten van Theodore Hamm, Sara P***k en Felix Klos over progressieve campagne-strategieën en Amerikaanse (politieke) speelveld.

Het gesprek liet opnieuw zien dat progressieve partijen wereldwijd voor vergelijkbare uitdagingen staan. Het sociaal-liberale geluid wint aan kracht als we onze ervaringen en ideeën met elkaar blijven delen! 🌍

Last week, D66 welcomed start-up liberal sister parties from Central and Southeast Europe for the Party Factory project from . It was an inspiring day of exchanging ideas on how progressive parties can lead the public debate again, instead of letting the ultra-right flank dominate.

At our party headquarters, gave a behind-the-scenes look at the D66 campaign, sharing insights on finding the right style of communication. Daniel Schut reflected on the value of honest self-reflection, and in the parliament Jan Sinnige spoke about the strategy behind the recent successful D66 campaign. Finally Martine van Schoor offered practical insights on organising elections, boosting turnout, and safeguarding voting security.

The main takeaway? Together, through sharing knowledge and cooperating, we are stronger 🇪🇺

Frankrijk staat op een kantelpunt: hoewel de presidentsverkiezingen gepland staan voor april 2027, groeit door maandenlange politieke onrust de druk om eerder naar de stembus te gaan. Macron’s steun is historisch laag, de radicale linker- én rechterflank winnen terrein en de regering wankelt, met al vijf premiers in minder dan twee jaar. Tegelijkertijd blijven pensioenprotesten, stijgende prijzen, ongelijkheid en wantrouwen toenemen.

Tijdens Blik op de wereld: Frankrijk duiken we in de politieke situatie van het land. Hoe ontstond de impasse? Welke spanningen spelen er onder de oppervlakte? En wat betekent de opkomst van radicaal rechts voor de democratie en voor Europa?

A view on the world: France 🇫🇷

France is at a turning point: with elections scheduled for April 2027, months of political turmoil have fueled calls for an earlier vote. Macron’s approval ratings are at historic lows, both the radical left and right are gaining ground, and leadership has become increasingly unstable, with five prime ministers in less than two years. Meanwhile, protests over pensions, rising prices and inequality reflect growing public distrust.

During our Blik op de wereld: Frankrijk event, we’ll take a deep dive into France’s political situation. How did this situation come about? What tensions are simmering beneath the surface? And what does the rise of the radical right mean for democracy and for Europe?
