Yesterday, astronomer Amina Helmi of the University of Groningen was named one of the winners of the The Kavli Prize in Astrophysics—an international prize awarded by the Academy of Science and Letters.

The is a globally renowned award recognizing groundbreaking research and this year Prof. dr. Amina Helmi
shares the prize for Astrophysics with Rodrigo Ibata and Vasily Belokurov for their pioneering work using ultra-precise measurements of stars to reconstruct the history of the .

Their research shows that our galaxy grew over billions of years through hierarchical merging—absorbing smaller galaxies.
🔭 By tracing stellar motions back in time, they uncovered evidence of a major merger around 10 billion years ago, which played a key role in shaping the Milky Way. Prof. Helmi’s work was crucial in confirming and detailing this event.

Known as the “archaeologist of the stars,” she has revealed that many stars in our galaxy are cosmic immigrants from ancient galaxies.

On Monday, we had the pleasure of hosting a special cultural evening at the Norwegian Residence together with the Polish Embassy in the Netherlands 🇳🇴 🇵🇱

Guests were brought on a fascinating journey through history, art, and literature by Polish artist Maria Molenda, who presented the remarkable life of Dagny Juel-Przybyszewska (1867–1901): Norwegian-born writer, muse, and cultural figure connected to the Young Poland movement through her marriage to Polish writer Stanisław Przybyszewski.

The evening offered valuable insights into the bohemian artistic circles of the era, the influence of the Young Poland movement on European culture, and the story of a talented woman far ahead of her time.

A highlight of the event was the presentation of period costumes and paintings inspired by Dagny, bringing the aesthetics of the time and Dagnys duality to life.

Last week, Ambassador Erling Rimestad delivered the opening remarks at a Workshop on Policy and Diplomacy for Scientists, hosted by The United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs and the Organisation on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).🧪👨‍🔬

Ambassador Rimestand underscored Norway’s strong support for both the BWC and the CWC, and for international cooperation and assistance 🤝

Living a life of glorious upper class boredom, Hedda aims to massage her insecurities by bullying her new husband Tesman when her ex-lover Løvborg arrives back in town with a meek wife in tow.

With her true feelings seemingly hidden she senses the opportunity to pit them against each other.

After decades of serving Norway, first at the consulate-general in Rotterdam and then at the embassy in The Hague, our dear colleague Aina will now retire.

Aina not only brightened up the office with her humour and warmth, but she was also a highly competent consular officer. Throughout the years, she has become part of the embassy’s institutional memory and continuity.

Kjære Aina: many thanks for being such a wonderful colleague. We are sure you will enjoy this exciting new phase of your life. And it will be safe to say that you may get even busier as a pensioner.

📖 This Thursday 23 April 2026, the Fosse Prize for Translators 🏆 will be awarded to Paula Stevens🇳🇱🇳🇴 at the Royal Palace🏰.

📚 With nearly 90 Norwegian literary works translated into Dutch, Paula Stevens is a central promoter of Norwegian literature 🇳🇴 in the Netherlands 🇳🇱 and Belgium🇧🇪.

🎤 The award is part of the Fosse Lecture 2026, delivered by American author Marilynne Robinson.

Last week a monument was unveiled at Oostergaarde Cemetery in Harderijk to commemorate 12 Allied airmen from the Second World War who were buried there but later exhumed.

One of them is pilot Borgar Knudsen, who died in Harderwijk in 1945 and was later buried in Drammen, Norway.

The Norwegian Embassy is grateful to Stichting We Will Remember, Stichting Regionale veteranendag Noord-West Veluwe and the municipality of Harderwijk, and mayor Jeroen Joon, for organizing the important ceremony. Defence Attaché Capt (Navy) Svein Lystrup was honored to attend.
