Over the past days, we have been deeply moved by the many Dutch citizens, representatives of government and public institutions, colleagues from other embassies, and friends of Norway who have taken the time to sign the Book of Condolences following the passing of His Majesty King Harald V.

Today, we were honoured to receive Ms. Mei Li Vos, President of the Senate (Eerste Kamer), and Mr. Thom van Campen, President of the House of Representatives (Tweede Kamer), who came to the Residence to pay their respects and sign the Book of Condolences.

We are sincerely grateful for the many expressions of sympathy and solidarity we have received during this period of national mourning. These gestures have been greatly appreciated by Norway and the Norwegian people.

This afternoon, both the Senate and the House of Representatives of the Netherlands are holding commemoration ceremonies in honour of His Majesty King Harald V, a touching tribute that we greatly appreciate.

The Book of Condolences is now closed. The funeral of His Majesty King Harald V will take place tomorrow, Wednesday 9 September, at 13:00 (Oslo time) in Oslo Cathedral.

The funeral can be followed live via:

• NRK: https://tv.nrk.no/direkte/nrk1

Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has signed the Book of Condolences and shared messages of remembrance in honour of His Majesty King Harald V.

‘It is with great sorrow that I received the news that His Majesty King Harald V has died.

A whole nation is in mourning and the people of Norway are left with a deep sense of gratitude for a long life in the service of Norway.

For more than three decades as monarch, Harald V demonstrated an unwavering faith in the Norwegian people. He helped us to see the best in ourselves – and in one another.

King Harald found the words to bind us together when we needed them the most. He grieved with us after the attacks 22 July 2011. He cheered with us when Norwegian athletes excelled. And he guided us, with warmth, wisdom and openness, towards a society with a place for everyone. King Harald had a profound love for Norway. And Norway had a profound love for King Harald.

My thoughts and deepest sympathy are with the Queen and the entire Royal Family at this difficult time,’ said Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre on learning of the death of King Harald V.

King Harald V was born on 21 February 1937. He died at the age of 89.

The Government will be convening soon for a government conference at the Office of the Prime Minister, and after that an extraordinary meeting of the Council of State will be held at the Royal Palace with the new King.

Today, 24 August 2026, marks the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence Day🇺🇦.

This day is a reminder of Ukraine’s enduring struggle for freedom, peace and the future of Europe. It is also an occasion to honour Ukraine’s history, culture and identity, and the courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people.

Yesterday, staff from the Norwegian Embassy in The Hague marked the occasion by taking part in the annual Run for Ukraine. The run commemorates those who lost their lives in the struggle for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Norway will continue to stand with Ukraine and support efforts to protect civilians, help children and families affected by the war, and ensure that future generations can grow up in freedom, dignity and peace🇳🇴🤝🇺🇦.

At a time when LGBT+ rights are under pressure in many parts of the world, solidarity and international cooperation remain as essential components in the fight for equal rights.🏳️‍🌈

A week after the devastating attack on the LGBT+ community in Berlin, thousands gathered in the streets of Amsterdam to celebrate during the annual Pride Canal Parade.

This year, our first secretary Roy Lasse Johansen and his partner represented Norway as a proud member of the .

On 22 July 2011, 77 people were killed by a far-right extremist terrorist. Eight in the Government Quarter, and 69 on Utøya.
Most of them were young. Many were seriously injured, and countless others had their lives changed forever.

Fifteen years have passed since we promised each other to never be silent, never forget. We all have a responsibility to stand up against terrorism, extremism, and hateful rhetoric.
