Bangladesh and Bosnia and Herzegovina Discuss Expanding Bilateral Cooperation in Trade, Investment and Labour Mobility
The Charge d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Bangladesh in The Hague, concurrently accredited to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Md Hasan Abdullah Towhid, paid a courtesy visit to H.E. Mr. Momir Brajić, Assistant Minister for Bilateral Affairs, on Monday, 18 May 2026 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo. The meeting was also attended by Ms. Jasmina Ćorović, Desk Officer for Bangladesh at the Department of Asia and Oceania, and Mr. Omar Musabegović, Honorary Consul of Bangladesh in Sarajevo.
The meeting took place in a warm and cordial atmosphere, with discussions focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the areas of politics, economy, trade, culture, and labour. Mr. Towhid referred to Bangladesh’s steady economic progress and its strong position in the global ready-made garments (RMG) industry. He highlighted the potential of Bosnia and Herzegovina to become a regional logistics centre for Bangladeshi exports to the Balkan market and stressed the need to strengthen trade and investment ties through increased collaboration between the respective chambers of commerce and the creation of a business forum. He also praised Bosnia and Herzegovina for its accomplishments in international sports, especially football, and suggested greater cooperation in this field.
Referring to the first Foreign Office Consultations held in 2024, the Bangladesh side emphasized the importance of commencing negotiations on a number of bilateral instruments, including the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement, Memorandum of Understanding on Cultural Cooperation, Agreement with the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Agreement on Reciprocal Promotion and Protection of Investment between BIDA and the Investment Promotion Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the MoU between the Foreign Trade Chamber of Bosnia and Herzegovina and FBCCI. Mr. Towhid further proposed holding the second round of Bilateral Political Consultations in Dhaka at a mutually agreed time later this year or in early next year.
Both sides recognized the considerable untapped opportunities in bilateral trade, while Bangladesh underscored its export potential in sectors such as ready-made garments, seafood, ceramics, pharmaceuticals, leather products, jute goods, handicrafts, processed food, tea, and ICT services.
The Charge d’Affaires a.i. also highlighted the availability of skilled and semi-skilled workforce from Bangladesh that could contribute to the economic growth of Bosnia and Herzegovina and requested the establishment of a consular office in Dhaka to facilitate mobility and visa processing for Bangladeshi workers. In response, the Assistant Minister expressed commitment to opening a consular office in Dhaka in the near future, particularly to ease work visa processing for Bangladeshi nationals.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reiterated their commitment to deepening the friendly relations between Bangladesh and Bosnia and Herzegovina across various sectors of cooperation.
