A reading and lecture by Dayna Casey of ‘Collapsed Mythologies: A Geofinancial Atlas’ (Eline Benjaminsen & Dayna Casey), activating its speculative ecology. This reading takes us through the book's essays, unravellings, images, intentions, writings and design. For the occasion, we have searched through out collection for images that connect to those found in the book. The manuscripts in which they appear will be brought out for display.
The realm of finance has its own eco-logics. Hectocorns offer behemoths poison pills, whales take fledglings to the moon, disappear into dark pools, and form fraudulent daisy chains with one another. The book examines slang terms used by traders and other financial professionals, transporting us to a landscape both real and supernatural. Between what these terms mean and the ecological world they refer to, lie rich mythological histories. Unpacking this seductive language reveals the absurd (super)natural ‘fictions’ that materially and violently shape our worldly ecology. The book is based upon The Geofinancial Lexicon by Sami Hammana, edited with Jack Clarke (Abstract Supply, 2021).
The book is published by Spector Books and Page Not Found, 2025.
The second edition has just been released.
