With deep sadness, we share the news of the passing of CIOR Honorary President, Major General Evan “Curly” Hultman.
Throughout his career, Major General Hultman demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to the armed forces and international reservist work. As President of the United States Reserve Officers Association, he was a strong advocate for the reserves both within the United States and beyond.
His outstanding leadership during his tenure as CIOR President from 1992 to 1994 helped bring officers from all member nations closer together. His influence left a lasting impact on CIOR—an achievement for which he was awarded the title of Honorary President of CIOR.
Major General Hultman remained closely connected to CIOR and its members, always ready to provide guidance and support whenever needed. A testament to this is the message he sent to the CIOR Council during the Mid-Winter Meeting at the end of January, continuing to inspire us even in his final days.
CIOR President Jørn Buo reflected on his legacy:
“General Hultman, in his over 80 years of service, was a leading example of the benefits and strengths of transatlantic cooperation for our security and freedom.”
We invite you to watch a CIOR interview with Major General Hultman, where he shared his experiences and thoughts on CIOR. We will share the interview in the comments below.
CIOR extends its deepest condolences to the family of Major General Hultman. With heavy hearts, we express our sincere gratitude for all he has done for the alliance and for so many of us personally.
We mourn the loss of a great leader, mentor, and friend.
