How can we monitor solar activity on the far side of the Sun? β˜€οΈ

πŸŽ“ Last week, 30 university students from across Europe tackled this challenge during the Concurrent Engineering Workshop 2026, where they designed an innovative mission concept called Antichthon.

πŸ›°οΈ The proposed mission would provide near real-time observations of solar regions currently hidden from Earth, helping improve space weather forecasting and our ability to predict solar events that can impact satellites, communications, navigation systems, and power grids on Earth.

πŸ’« Over four intensive days, the students applied ESA’s concurrent engineering approach to define the mission architecture, including the spacecraft design, trajectory, communications, power and thermal subsystems, propulsion concept, and operational strategy for a spacecraft positioned near the Sun–Earth L3 region.

Congratulations to all the students who took part in this inspiring and ambitious challenge, your creativity, teamwork, and engineering skills made this a truly stellar experience! 🌞
