Later this month, we're celebrating the launch of "Identity and Climate Change in Contemporary Photography: Reframing Netherlandish Landscapes". An in-depth study of Dutch landscape and nature photography by our very own curator of photography Maartje van den Heuvel.
Through an interdisciplinary lens, Van den Heuvel presents and discusses photographs from the Leiden University Special Collections and other works. Applying theories from both art history and landscape theory, she examines how contemporary landscape photography from both an art historical angle, against the background of the famous history of Dutch landscape painting, and a cultural geographic dimension, specifically how climate change is altering the understanding of the physical Dutch landscape.
