Bladkleur, -vorm en -structuur spelen hier een belangrijke rol. Bijzondere plantencollecties in uitgekiende kleurrijke en harmonieuze borders.

This ornamental grass is my favorite in our garden. In early spring the foliage is bright yellow/green at the base with red tips. In summer most of the foliage has become intense blood- red and in fall, like now in the sun, it becomes all kind of beautiful colours: yellow - green - pink - red -purple etc.. In Holland this ornamental grass will not produce flowers; it's probably too cold. But: who needs flowers when the blades are that beautiful red? It's growing in several flowerbeds as well in a sunny as in a shady place and the foliage is intense red everywhere. The plants make 'open' clumps which spread slowly underground by 'runners'. Overhere the foliage reaches a height of about 60 cm.

Op vrijdag 11 en zaterdag 12 september zijn liefhebbers welkom in de tuinen van Buurvrouw en Buurvrouw aan de Noordermiddenweg 13 en 15 te Espel. In dit weekend kan men tevens terecht in boerderijtuin Het Zwaluwhuis Zwijnsweg 31 Ens.
** Houdt u van dahlia's, dan bent u in Bloemenpark De Wei op nr 13 op het goede adres. Hier kunt u heerlijk rondwandelen tussen ruim 200 verschillende dahlia’s (de een nog mooier dan de ander) en langs vele bijzondere eenjarigen. Het is mogelijk om hier een vers geplukt boeket te laten maken.
** In De Stekkentuin op nr. 15 spelen bladkleur, --vorm en -structuur een belangrijke rol. Door gebruik te maken van rood-, grijs, bontbladige planten, heesters en bomen is er van het vroege voorjaar tot in de late herfst veel kleur in deze tuin te zien, ook zonder bloei. Er is een kleine schilderijen- en tuinkeramiek expositie
** Het Zwaluwhuis in Ens is een opvallende landelijke boerderijtuin met mooie strakke zichtlijnen met een losse beplanting in ‘prairiestijl’. Kortom: er is voor elk wat wils.

** Bloemenpark De Wei is gratis open op vrijdag tot15.00 uur en op zaterdag tot 13.00 uur
** De Stekkentuin is op vrijdag en zaterdag van 10.00 - 17.00 uur open
** Het Zwaluwhuis is op zaterdag open van 10.00 17.00 uur
** Andere dagen op afspraak geopend.
** De tuinen zijn niet rolstoelvriendelijk
** In de tuinen wordt entree gevraagd.
** De koffie staat klaar.

In our garden you find several species of Ligularia varieties. One of my favorite is: Ligularia dentata 'Britt Marie Crawford'. in spring the leaves are very dark red, almost black. The stems are also dark red. At the shady place, where this Ligularia is growing over here, the leaves are greenish red with a wonderful purple/red backside. New leaves are shiny and beautiful dark red colored. At this time the plants are still blooming with orange-yellow, daisy-like flowers............

This hardy (in our garden) ginger lily, called Tara, has reached a height of 2 meter and is flowering with beautiful fragrant orange-red bottlebrush spikes. Hedychium Tara is a rhizomatous perennial with eye-catching thick erect, unbranched stems. The nice green lanced-shaped leaves are about 35 cm ..........

Hardy (in our garden) ginger lily 'Assam Orange. This wonderful rhizomatous upright clumpforming perennial has reached a height of 1.50 m. The plants have nice lance-shaped green leaves, all through the season. Flowering from august to end of september with lots of fragrant orange flowers in bottlebrush spikes

In our garden we have several Helenium seedlings This one looks great to me: the plant has strong stems, is not that high, and............. the wonderful dark red flowerpetals are narrow.

Berkheya purpurea.
This wonderful attractive South African Thistle is a great perennial with clumps of very prickly grey-green hairy leaves close to the ground. These rosettes produce spiny flower-stems with daisy-like mauve flowers with deep purple center which appear on short side branches. Flowering from June to the first frost. The thistles love a sunny dry place, are very hardy (over here) and reach a height of 80 cm. .........

Berkheya cirsifolia ............

This wonderful thistle from South Africa proved to be hardy since his first winter in our garden: 2018/2019 with minus 10 degrees and cold strong east wind.
It also survived the mild winter of 2019/2020 with over 500 mm of rain ..............(rain? how does that look like? :) )
And it also seems to survive long hot and dry summers like we have now. Flowering from July to the first frost and very attractive to all kind of insects.................
