On 15 May 2026, the University Women of Europe (UWE) hosted an engaging webinar entitled “AI in Our World Today: A Gendered Perspective.”
The keynote presentation was delivered by Professor Deirdre Ahern, Professor of Law at Trinity College Dublin and member of Ireland’s AI Advisory Council. Her insightful presentation explored the growing impact of Artificial Intelligence on society, with a particular focus on the opportunities, risks, and challenges facing women in the digital age.
Key themes included women’s representation in AI development and governance, algorithmic bias and discrimination, the rise of deepfakes targeting women, and the implications of AI for the future workforce. The discussion also highlighted positive applications of AI in areas such as healthcare and public transport.
The webinar brought together participants from across Europe, including Ireland, Turkey, Switzerland, Romania, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, and Finland, creating a rich and thoughtful exchange of perspectives.
The conversation reinforced the importance of ensuring that AI systems are ethical, inclusive, and developed with diverse representation at every level.
