The UvA Library has won the Amsterdam Architecture Prize 2026.
Our stunning new University Library in the University Quarter was awarded Amsterdam’s most prestigious architecture prize, recognizing outstanding design, craftsmanship, and social impact in the city. The prize is organized annually by Arcam, the Amsterdam Centre for Architecture.
The Library is the result of a project that took more than 25 years of planning, development, and realization.
It brings together the historic former Binnengasthuis hospital buildings with a striking new wing and spectacular glass-roofed atrium, creating a modern learning environment while preserving the site’s rich history.
The building was designed by architects Roberto Meyer of MVSA Architects and André van Stigt of Architectenbureau J. van Stigt. Their vision combines heritage architecture with contemporary design, making the library a unique place to create, collaborate, and connect.
