European Christian Political Party The European Christian Political Party (ECPP) is the only explicitly Christian party in the EP.

We are a European party, a coalition of Christian-democratic parties and organisations, active at all different political levels in Europe. The ECPP is not affiliated to one of the groups in the European Parliament. In short, we stand for:
- a Europe of human dignity
- an economy that works for people and planet
- healthy families and healthy marriages
- freedom, security and stability
- fighting human trafficking
- reforming the European Union
- preserving Christian culture & heritage

Today, European Commission President Von der Leyen delivered the State of the European Union. ECPP welcomes some of what she said, but has reservations about others.

We are disappointed by the complete lack of any mention of religious freedom and the persecution of Christians and other religious minorities worldwide.

🗣 Valeriu Ghileţchi, ECPP President: "From von der Leyen's speech, we cannot be very confident that religious freedom is a priority for the Commission. The European Union has an important role to play for the victims of persecution. It can raise the voice of those who cannot raise it themselves. The EU should recognise this!"

At the same time, the address contained several points ECPP welcomes and supports, such as steps forward on defence, migration, and the initiative to ban social media for children under 13.

Gold-plating — the practice of EU Member States interpreting European rules more strictly than required — is seriously undermining the competitive position of businesses, says ECPP MEP Bert-Jan Ruissen.

ECPP MEP Reinis Poznaks welcomes the Omnibus V, a package of measures simplifying rules on defence. He warns against delay and urges action.

🗣 "This report has many good points, but it ignores some very serious issues."

ECPP MEP Cristian Terhes criticises the report of the Special Committee on the European Democracy Shield, tasked with advising on how to protect the EU from foreign interference, information manipulation and hybrid threats.

MEP Terhes criticises its ideological bias and the proposal to increase the European Commission's influence over elections. He also calls for firmer wording on Russia's cognitive warfare against Europe.

He argues democracy is best protected by freedom, transparency, and the protection of fundamental rights.

Today, we remember the victims of September 11, 2001.

Twenty-five years later, the images and stories of that day remain etched into our collective memory. Thousands of innocent people lost their lives, families were changed forever, and communities across the world were left grieving.

We remember not only those who were killed, but also the courage of those who ran toward danger to save others, and the solidarity shown by people of different nations, faiths, and backgrounds in the aftermath.

Today is a day for remembrance, for mourning, and for reaffirming our shared commitment to human dignity, peace, freedom, and the rejection of terrorism and political violence.

Our thoughts are with the victims, their families and loved ones, and all those who continue to carry the scars of that terrible day.

We remember. We stand together.

We look back on successful ECPP Study Days in Brussels where we welcomed a group of politicians and party members of ChristenUnie, our Dutch member party.

📅 DAY 1

In the European Parliament, we had a roundtable discussion on Religious Freedom, a fundamental human right, with the European Parliament Intergroup on Freedom of Religion, Belief & Conscience Intergroup on Freedom of Religion, Belief and Conscience, together with ECPP MEP Bert-Jan Ruissen who co-chairs the intergroup, and several other MEPs. They shared about their work in the EP on promoting religious freedom. ChristenUnie Member of Parliament Don Ceder added to that by discussing what can be done at a national level to further these rights. Particular attention was paid to persecuted Christians during the roundtable.

In a workshop, ECPP Director for Political Relations Marton Gyongyosi explained the European legislative process and how it directly interacts with politics at domestic level. Taking the case of the Migration Pact, he proved that the EU is much closer to its citizens than often thought.

And of course, the programme included a tour around the European Parliament building.

ECPP MEP Niels Geuking hosted us for dinner. He emphasised the importance of family in our European societies, as well as the need for cooperation at a European level and within the ECPP:

Ukraine's resistance is crucial for the security of Europe. We are safe as long as Ukraine holds out. For ECPP, peace and security in Europe are vital. But peace must be just, says ECPP President Valeriu Ghilețchi.

We need to achieve a just peace in Ukraine and make sure that Ukraine's territorial integrity is preserved.

Today we remember all those who suffered or lost their lives because of what they believed. ECPP firmly upholds the fundamental freedom of religion or belief for all.

No one should ever be persecuted for their faith. Not in Europe. Not anywhere.
